A Crane Operator operates cranes, machines used to maneuver materials and lift and lower objects from a great height. Works at construction sites, ports, logging sites, and electrical repair sites.
The CDL Crane Operator is responsible for supporting our mechanical construction projects throughout New Jersey and surrounding areas. This position is responsible for safely transporting, operating, and maintaining company crane equipment while assisting with the loading, unloading, rigging, and placement of mechanical equipment, piping systems, HVAC units, and construction materials.
Key Responsibilities:
Crane Operation Safely operate mobile cranes and related lifting equipment on commercial and industrial construction sites. Perform lifts involving HVAC systems, chillers, boilers, air handling units, piping materials, structural components, and other construction equipment. Review lift plans and execute lifts in accordance with company policies and OSHA standards. Assess site conditions and determine proper crane setup, positioning, and load handling procedures. Transportation & CDL Responsibilities Transport crane equipment, materials, and job-related equipment to and from project sites. Secure loads properly and verify safe transport conditions. Rigging & Job Site Support Work closely with field supervisors, project managers, foremen, and rigging personnel. Participate in planning and coordinating complex lifts. Inspect rigging equipment prior to use and verify load weights and capacities. Equipment Maintenance Perform daily inspections of crane equipment and report maintenance needs promptly. Maintain cleanliness and operational readiness of all assigned equipment. Safety & Compliance Follow all OSHA, DOT, manufacturer, and company safety requirements. Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and ongoing training. Identify and report unsafe job site conditions. Utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times. Qualifications Required Valid CDL Class A with a clean driving record.
ABC/ABL certification is required. Minimum 2 years of crane operating experience in construction, mechanical, industrial, or related environments. Knowledge of rigging practices, load charts, and crane safety requirements. Ability to read and understand lift plans, blueprints, and construction drawings. Strong understanding of OSHA and DOT regulations. Preferred Experience operating hydraulic truck cranes, boom trucks, or similar lifting equipment. Rigging and signal person certification. Familiarity with union construction environments. Physical Requirements Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to climb, bend, kneel, and work on uneven terrain. Ability to safely lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds. Ability to work occasional overtime, weekends, or adjusted schedules based on project demands.
Pay:
$30.00 - $35.00 per hour
