Job Title:
Cab Crane Operator Job Description The Cab Crane Operator safely operates overhead cab cranes to move raw materials, fabricated components, and finished products throughout a manufacturing and fabrication facility. This role supports welding and fabrication operations by lifting and positioning large steel assemblies, following established safety and rigging practices, and maintaining clear communication with production teams. The operator performs pre-shift inspections, adheres to safety procedures, and contributes to a clean and organized work environment. Responsibilities Safely operate overhead cab cranes to move raw materials, fabricated components, and finished products throughout the facility. Lift, position, and transport large and heavy steel assemblies to support fabrication and welding operations. Work closely with welders, fitters, supervisors, and other production personnel to ensure materials are delivered where and when needed. Perform pre-shift equipment inspections and promptly report any mechanical or safety concerns. Follow load charts, lifting procedures, and established rigging practices to ensure safe and efficient material handling. Coordinate lifts using hand signals, radios, or other approved communication methods. Verify load stability and proper rigging before moving materials. Maintain constant awareness of personnel and equipment in the work area to ensure safe crane operation. Assist with general material handling and shop support activities as needed. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in the crane operating and production areas. Adhere to all company safety policies, procedures, and required personal protective equipment (PPE) standards. Read and follow work instructions, lift plans, and production schedules to meet operational requirements. Communicate effectively with supervisors and production personnel regarding material movement and job status. Work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining high safety and performance standards. Demonstrate reliable attendance and a strong work ethic to support consistent production operations. Essential Skills Previous overhead cab crane operating experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment. Proven ability to safely move large, heavy, and irregularly shaped loads. Knowledge of crane safety practices, load handling procedures, and rigging fundamentals. Ability to read and follow work instructions, lift plans, and production schedules. Strong awareness of workplace safety and hazard recognition in an industrial setting. Effective communication skills to coordinate with supervisors, welders, fitters, and other production personnel. Reliable attendance and strong work ethic to support ongoing production needs. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining safety and quality standards. Hands-on experience with overhead crane operation and related material handling tasks. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience operating overhead cranes in a steel fabrication, heavy manufacturing, or industrial environment. Previous experience handling large weldments, structural steel, or pressure vessel components. Formal crane operator or rigging training or certification. Forklift operating experience in a production or fabrication setting. Knowledge of rigging equipment, including slings, shackles, and various lifting devices. Experience working around welders, fitters, and fabrication teams in a shop environment. Basic blueprint reading or shop drawing interpretation skills. Work Environment This position is based in a manufacturing and fabrication facility in Ohio, working on a first shift schedule from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The role involves operating overhead cab cranes and working around welders, fitters, and other production personnel in an industrial shop setting. The environment includes large steel assemblies, weldments, and heavy manufacturing equipment, requiring consistent use of appropriate personal protective equipment and adherence to safety policies. The facility emphasizes cleanliness and organization, with a focus on maintaining a safe work area around active fabrication and welding operations. The assignment is structured over a defined duration of 520 hours, offering steady, daytime work in a production-focused environment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Struthers, OH. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $24.00/hr.
