Job Description

Primary purpose:
  • Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the dockside and overhead cranes utilized in the movement and discharge of bulk and break-bulk commodities from marine ships and barges along with all other terminal equipment, such as fork lifts, front end loaders, skid steers, and similar marine terminal/warehouse mobile equipment.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
  • Physically manipulate, move and/or depress crane controls such as pedals, levers and buttons to move/regulate speed and direction of crane unit, booms, cables, buckets, etc., during equipment operation.
  • Perform pre-use inspection of all equipment operated and perform preventative maintenance to include but not limited to adding fuel, oil, and lubricants, cleaning and changing cables, filters, hoses, belts, fuses, and adjusting brakes, clutches, limits and similar equipment or functions. Maintain service logs and report damaged and unsafe equipment to supervisor and/or maintenance for repairs.
  • Set up, attach, fasten and/or prepare crane with hydraulic hoses, belts, power cords, other attachments and mechanical linkage for the activity assigned and operate the equipment within safe load tolerances.
  • Utilize proper Personal Protective Equipment for the assigned tasks and report damaged protective equipment and unsafe conditions to Operations Supervisor.
  • Complete and maintain proper paper documentation on product movement including but not limited to: proper weight, size and temperatures, load slips and inventory tallies, etc.
  • Assist with general maintenance and cleanliness of terminal and assist with product spills using shovels, scoops and any specialized tools and equipment as required and trained to use.
  • Attend daily and monthly safety meetings; participate in and show proficiency (through written exam) in general and site specific operations and maintenance training programs for KM environmental, health and safety standards.
  • Perform other duties as requested or required.
