This position is responsible for operating horizontal directional drilling (HDD) equipment and supporting the installation of underground utility, telecommunications, and fiber optic infrastructure throughout Arizona. The ideal candidate will possess strong directional drilling experience, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced construction environment. Candidates with experience utilizing locating equipment, hydro excavation equipment, and underground utility installation methods are highly encouraged to apply. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Operate horizontal directional drilling equipment safely and efficiently for utility and fiber optic installations. Plan and execute bore paths in coordination with project supervisors and utility locators. Utilize locating equipment, including Subsite Marksman and/or DigiTrak F5 locating systems. Read and interpret utility maps, construction plans, staking sheets, and project specifications. Perform potholing and utility verification activities to identify existing underground utilities. Maintain proper clearances from existing utilities, structures, roadways, and other infrastructure. Install HDPE conduit, spool duct, and other underground utility products according to project requirements. Assist with the installation of fiber optic cable, vaults, handholes, pedestals, and related infrastructure. Operate supporting construction equipment including mini excavators, skid steers, vacuum excavation trailers, and other jobsite equipment. Conduct daily equipment inspections and perform routine maintenance on drilling and support equipment. Maintain accurate production records and communicate project progress with supervisors. Follow all OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and customer-specific requirements. Participate in safety meetings, job hazard analyses, and project planning activities. Assist with additional field operations as needed to support successful project completion. QualificationsRequired Minimum 3 years of experience operating horizontal directional drilling equipment. Experience operating Ditch Witch and/or Vermeer directional drilling equipment. Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record. Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required. Ability to read and interpret construction plans, utility maps, and locate markings. Strong understanding of underground utility construction practices. Ability to work safely around existing utilities and in active construction environments. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and terrain. Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with crews and supervisors. Commitment to safety, quality workmanship, and productivity. Preferred Experience using Subsite Marksman locating systems. Experience using DigiTrak F5 locating systems. Experience with hydro excavation trailers and vacuum excavation equipment. Experience operating skid steers and mini excavators. Experience installing HDPE conduit, spool duct, and fiber optic infrastructure. Knowledge of telecommunications, electrical, and utility construction projects. OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification. Physical Requirements Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds. Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and work in trenches and uneven terrain for extended periods. Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and occasional overnight travel as project needs require.
