Concurrent Utility Services, a UniTek Global Services company, is seeking a Bore Locator. The Bore Locator plays a critical role in horizontal directional drilling (HDD) operations by tracking the drill head and providing real-time guidance to the drill operator. This ensures the bore follows the planned alignment, maintains the required depth, and safely avoids existing underground utilities. The Bore Locator walks the bore path, operates and interprets data from the walkover locating system, and accurately documents bore location and depth information. This data is used to create the final as-built records, ensuring the completed installation is properly documented and compliant with project requirements. Responsibilities Set up, calibrate and maintain walkover locating systems (e.g., Digital Control/DCI Falcon or DigiTrak, Subsite, Radiodetection, Ditch Witch) and sondes, including frequency selection and interference checks. Walk the bore path before drilling: confirm 811 marks, flag existing utilities and obstacles, and check for active interference (power lines, rebar, fences, traffic loops). Track the drill head during the pilot bore; call out depth, pitch, roll/clock position and left/right steering to the operator over radio. Keep the bore to plan for depth, grade, bend radius and separation from other utilities; stop the bore when readings are unclear or a conflict is found. Direct potholing (vac or hand dig) to visually verify crossings and critical utilities. Record rod-by-rod readings and produce accurate bore logs and as-built drawings or data for the customer. Watch for frac-outs/inadvertent returns, surface heave or settlement along the path and report them immediately. Help with tooling changes, rod handling, pullback, fluid and cleanup as needed. Set up work-zone traffic control (MOT) and keep pedestrians and vehicles clear of the bore path. Report any utility strike, near miss, injury or damage right away and follow company safety rules, OSHA, customer standards and permit conditions. Qualifications 1+ year locating for HDD (or 2+ years as an HDD crew member with locating experience). Hands-on skill with at least one major walkover locating system and sonde calibration. Able to read prints, bore plans and utility maps, and do basic depth and grade math. Knowledge of Florida 811 / Sunshine 811 rules and utility color codes. Clear radio communication; able to keep accurate written or electronic logs. Valid driver's license with a clean record; able to pass a drug screen and background check. OSHA 10. Preferred Utility locating certification (e.g., NULCA) or manufacturer training. Experience on FPL, Duke or telecom projects; rock or deep bores; wire-line or gyro steering. Experience with bore logging software and producing as-builts.
