Position Summary:

Excel Utility Contractors is seeking a Drill Locator that is locating equipment and product support equipment. Perform semi-skilled activities related to HDD locating must be familiar with industry standards, policies, guidelines, and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Operates Directional Drill for installation of underground telecommunications cable conduit. Ensures safety of the public and other utilities underground facilities. Performs all duties according to prescribed safety procedures and uses appropriate safety equipment. Setup and cleanup of work site including traffic and pedestrian control. Reads utility locates and coordinating day lighting of these facilities. Ensures all applicable permits and locates are complete and on site. Inspects the work that is in progress to ensure that the workmanship conforms to specifications. Operates construction equipment to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery to conform to grade specifications. Level earth to final grade specifications. Operates vehicles and equipment operations from trucks to other equipment as directed and certified. Confirm bore path with install foreman and drill operator (including walking the bore path). Perform job site analysis (JSA) including completion of paperwork. Ensure there are proper clearances to install the product per standards. Record the depth of the tool head as required. Ensure the drill head is in a good position at the exit pit to connect the product. Requirements Success Factors/job competencies Operators must have good eyesight and better than average coordination to operate both hand and foot levers simultaneously. Must have good judgement to perform complicated tasks and must be able to work closely with other crafts without constant supervision. Skilled operators are constantly on alert and observant of their surroundings. Ability to work from construction specifications or blueprints. Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions. Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency. Ability to perform manual work requiring periods of extensive physical exertion and potential exposure to adverse weather conditions. Working knowledge of hazards and safety precautions. Ability to drive and operate the equipment under varying working conditions.

Qualifications required:

High School Diploma and/or equivalent. Class A CDL Driver's License, or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment. 2+ years' experience operating equipment in the underground utility field. 2 + year's industry experience (i.e., underground utility construction) Working Conditions /

This position operates in a field environment. This role routinely requires the ability to work in a variety of physical positions, including sitting, standing, walking, bending, squatting, lifting, twisting, pushing, pulling, and kneeling. The physical demands described in this job description represent those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. This position is labor intensive, with lifting required. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Regular exposure to all weather conditions, especially hot, humid and/or rainy spring, summer, and fall weather. Assume responsibility for work outcomes and results of other workers. May be exposed to uncomfortable or distracting sounds or noise levels on sites of projects being managed or coordinated. When working onsite, will be required to wear common protective of safety equipment, such as safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, hard hats, and safety vest.

Position Summary:

The Operator is responsible for operating company equipment on a daily basis. Responsible for daily maintenance of machines.
