Job Description

Position Overview The Underground Driller is responsible for the operation of a mobile drilling rig in various remote locations or on active mine sites. The UG Driller serves as the crew supervisor and is responsible for ensuring that safety operations and procedures are followed and that proper documentation is completed as required. The UG Driller is responsible for the training of UG Driller Assistants and may train new UG Drillers as necessary. The UG Driller will also operate and perform maintenance on equipment, manage site inventory, perform UG Driller Assistant duties when necessary, and interact with clients. The schedule for UG Drillers is 20 days on and 10 days off. Essential Functions Demonstrate a strong commitment to safe work practices and ensuring the safety of the crew. Daily supervision of UG driller assistants in accordance with National's policies and procedures. Train, coach, and effectively communicate with drill assistants. Maintain proper documentation and reporting of all drill activities. Perform and document daily line out, toolbox meetings, and pre-shift inspections. Service and operate equipment in a safe, efficient manner, following all policies and procedures. Responsible for the handling of drill pipe, downhole tools, hand tools, and site inventory. Maintain a clean and organized work area following all housekeeping requirements. Ability to work at heights and perform a variety of labor-intensive tasks as required. Maintain clear, concise communication with Toolpusher and the client. Maintain production standards and timeline requirements as directed by the Toolpusher, Operations Manager, and the client. Report to work each shift on time and fit for duty. Maintain effective and collaborative workplace relationships, treating others with dignity and respect. Qualifications Must pass a pre-employment physical, drug (including the usage of marijuana) and alcohol screening, Motor Vehicle Report (MVR), and additional background screening as required by regulation and/or industry practice. Must have a valid driver's license and the ability to obtain a CDL. Ability to work 12 hours per day plus travel time, to and from the rig, and work in extreme weather conditions in geographically isolated areas. Ability to work 20 days on, 10 days off schedule. Previous Underground drilling experience required. Knowledge of mechanics related to drills, diesel, and gasoline-powered engines, hydraulics, and electrical required. Ability to personally handle heavy wrenches, lift and/or carry heavy tools or supplies (up to 100 lbs.) and operate levers with both hands. Must be able to stand for long periods of time and push, pull, reach, climb, bend, twist, squat, and kneel multiple times per shift. Must be able to maintain a good attendance record.
