Install conduit, fiber optic cable pathways, and related underground telecommunications infrastructure. Review construction plans, utility maps, and locate markings before beginning work. Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of drilling equipment and support vehicles. Monitor drilling operations to ensure bore paths meet project specifications and safety requirements. Locate and expose existing underground utilities using safe excavation practices. Maintain drilling fluid systems and monitor bore conditions during operations. Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, and minor repairs on drilling equipment. Coordinate with crew members, supervisors, utility companies, and project managers. Complete daily production reports, safety inspections, and equipment logs. Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and local utility protection requirements. Assist with job site setup, traffic control, restoration, and cleanup activities as needed. Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED. Experience operating directional drilling equipment in telecommunications, utility, or underground construction environments. Valid driver's license; CDL preferred. Knowledge of underground utility locating practices and damage prevention procedures. Ability to read construction drawings, plans, and utility locates. Basic mechanical aptitude and equipment troubleshooting skills. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Strong communication and teamwork skills. Preferred Qualifications Fiber optic construction experience. CDL Class A or B license. OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification. First Aid/CPR certification. Experience using Vermeer, Ditch Witch, or similar directional drilling equipment.
