Electrician Helper - Entry-Level Career Opportunity at Camp Pendleton Job Description This role supports marine and shipboard electrical projects by assisting with layout, installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and equipment in a shipyard environment. The Electrician Helper works closely with experienced electricians to prepare materials, run and terminate wiring, and help ensure that all work meets applicable marine electrical industry standards and safety requirements. Responsibilities Use a tape measure accurately to lay out electrical materials and components according to drawings and specifications. Lay out, fit up, and organize materials for electrical installations and repairs to support efficient workflow. Assist with rigging activities to safely move and position electrical equipment and materials. Operate hand and power tools safely and effectively for cutting, fastening, and assembling electrical components. Apply lock-out/tag-out procedures to ensure electrical systems and equipment are safely de-energized before work begins. Follow material procedures for handling, storing, and using electrical materials and components in a shipyard setting. Bend conduit and pipe using a mandrel pipe bender to route electrical wiring in accordance with plans and standards. Operate, adjust, and help maintain electrical test equipment under supervision to support system testing and troubleshooting. Assist in adjusting and maintaining shipboard electrical equipment to ensure proper operation and reliability. Follow and apply marine electrical industry standards and U.S. Navy standard items as directed when performing tasks. Identify potential electrical hazards in the work area and report or address them in accordance with safety procedures. Support the energizing and de-energizing of electrical equipment by following established procedures and directions from supervisors. Assist in diagnosing and troubleshooting electrical equipment by gathering data, performing basic tests, and reporting findings. Support soldering of electrical equipment and connections as directed to ensure secure and reliable joints. Run electrical wiring and properly dead-end or terminate wiring in accordance with drawings and safety requirements. Draft or assist in drafting service reports that document work performed, test results, and equipment status. Read and interpret electrical schematics and blueprints to understand wiring routes, connections, and component locations. Work on shipboard systems such as communication, interior communications, and marine electrical systems as directed. Pull electrical cables through conduits, trays, and ship structures while protecting insulation and following routing plans. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, and comply with all shipyard and safety regulations. Essential Skills Ability to read and interpret electrical blueprints and schematics. Ability to pull electrical cables safely and efficiently in a shipboard environment. Willingness and physical ability to work on knees for 6-8 hours per day as required by the tasks. Proficiency in using a tape measure accurately for layout work. Capability to lay out, fit up, and organize electrical materials according to plans. Basic skill in operating hand and power tools used in electrical installation and maintenance. Understanding and application of lock-out/tag-out procedures for electrical safety. Ability to identify electrical hazards and follow safety practices in a shipyard environment. Basic familiarity with reading and following electrical schematics. Ability to run and properly terminate electrical wiring under supervision. Capacity to assist with diagnosing and troubleshooting electrical equipment by following instructions. Comfort working in a marine or shipyard environment around shipboard electrical systems. Additional Skills & Qualifications Familiarity with U.S. Navy standard items related to shipboard electrical work. Experience or exposure to marine electrical industry standards. Ability to bend conduit and pipe using a mandrel pipe bender. Experience assisting with rigging operations for electrical equipment and materials. Basic experience operating, adjusting, and maintaining electrical test equipment under supervision. Exposure to adjusting and maintaining shipboard electrical equipment. Basic soldering skills for electrical connections. Experience drafting or contributing to service reports documenting electrical work. Familiarity with low, medium, and high voltage shipboard systems such as communications, interior communications, and marine electrical wiring. Why Work Here? Work Environment This position is based in a shipyard environment working on shipboard electrical systems. The work involves being on your knees for extended periods, working in confined or tight shipboard spaces, and navigating ladders, decks, and industrial areas. You will regularly use hand and power tools, electrical test equipment, and pipe bending tools, and you will work around low, medium, and high voltage systems. The environment includes typical shipyard conditions such as noise, varying temperatures, and industrial equipment, and requires adherence to all safety procedures, including appropriate personal protective equipment and attire suitable for industrial and shipboard work. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Oceanside, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.
