Status:
Temporary, part-time, non-exempt employment on a W-2.
Compensation:
This is a non-exempt W2 position (eligible for overtime) with an hourly rate of $22/hour (overtime rate is $33/hour). Anticipated total of 270 regular hours plus up to 112 overtime hours during prep, load in, performances, and load out (July through August). Payments to be remitted in the week following work hours (typically on Thursday/Friday), based on the submission ofpleted timesheets.
Location:
Boston, MA Occasional meetings with Production Management, Lighting Designers, and/or High Output to bepleted remotely as needed Prep prior to load in to bepleted at High Output in Canton, MA The performance itself takes place on the Boston Common near the Parkman Bandstand Rehearsals to take place at the BLO rehearsal space, Boston MA Performances on the Boston Common, Boston MA This is a local hire•no housing or transportation is provided. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The 2026 production ofA Midsummer Night's Dream celebrates our 30th year of sharing Free Shakespeare productions with Greater Boston audiences. The Assistant Production Electrician/Board Op will help the PE during the lighting prep, load in and load out processes, as well as maintenance tasks throughout the run of the show and run the lighting console turning all technical rehearsals and performances.
Responsibilities include:
Assist the Production Electrician during prep and load-in/out, including hang and focus Run the console during technical rehearsals and performances Troubleshoot moving and conventional lighting equipment Be onsite for all technical rehearsals and performances Under guidance from the PE, lead a team of overhire and staff electricians during load in, hang, focus, and load out Maintain and troubleshoot light plot throughout the production Assist the PE and Site Ops Managers in daily startup and shutdown operations Perform other duties as assigned by
Master Electrician Qualifications:
Qualifications:
Education, training, and/or experience in theatre at a Bachelor's degree or equivalent level. At least two years experience programming Excellentanizational and time management skills Strong leadership andmunication skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Experience with outdoor theatre a plus On-site job requirements: Attend prep, load in, load out, and all technical rehearsals and performances Ability to lift and carry 50lbs Ability to navigate stairs and uneven terrain Ability to navigate in variable high/low light settings in outdoor conditions. Ability to operate boom lift and train other staff members in its use Working at height (e.g. in boom lift, from spot seat, or on truss) Valid driver's license 18+ years of age Experience with and ability to meet all duties and responsibilities as listed above
