Full Job Description Summary:
This is semi-skilled manual labor. Employees in this class require manipulative skill at what could be generally categorized as the journeyman level. It requires some electrical and mechanical maintenance skills. It involves both light and heavy physical labor in testing, operation, maintenance and repair of water and sewerage systems and components. The employee is expected to work with a minimum of supervision. Most work will be assigned in a priority order by the supervisor. However, the employee will be required to schedule routine, repetitive type work such as preventive maintenance, on a regular basis. The employee must be capable of working at considerable heights above the ground.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Check all sewerage lift stations for proper operation daily, to include recording of elapsed time meters, test operation of pumps, and note general condition. Check sewerage treatment plant for proper operation daily, to include influent and effluent pumps, influent screens, air pumps, aerators, and scrapers. Check water well for proper operation daily, to include pump motor, lime and chlorine dispensers, record elapsed time meters, change chart recorder, record pressure and totalizer meters, and note general condition. Check elevated water storage tank for level, condition, and repair or replace contacts, probes, etc., to maintain proper operation. Troubleshoot, isolate, and repair plumbing problems in both water and sewerage systems. Troubleshoot, isolate, and repair mechanical problems in both water and sewerage systems. Troubleshoot, isolate, and repair electrical problems, utilizing appropriate test instruments, in both water and sewerage systems. Recommend hiring of electrician when appropriate. Cut grass and trim shrubbery with power, push and riding, mowers and power tools; rake and trim grounds around utility locations. Operate backhoe or other powered digging equipment to expose water and sewerage lines for repair.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) Two (2) years of experience in the utility field Obtain specialty certification, must be able to obtain within two (2) years. Must be lawfully eligible to work in the United States. A criminal background check will be performed for this position. Must have valid Alabama driver's license and good driving record. CDL preferred.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of hand and power tools and their safe use. Ability to proficiently and safely operate a backhoe. Knowledge of materials, methods and techniques used in the repair and maintenance of electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems. Knowledge of occupational hazards and standard precautions of the work involved. Ability to proficiently and safely operate a backhoe. Ability to prepare written reports. Ability to establish periodic preventive maintenance work. Ability to work with minimum of supervision. Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods in various weather conditions. Ability to translate rough instructions into completed project. Ability to work at considerable heights above ground. Ability to perform simple mathematical calculations. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public.
