Job Description
Position Summary:
E.R. Jahna Industries is seeking a highly skilled Industrial Electrician to support the maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, installation, and optimization of electrical and automation systems across multiple mining and processing operations. This position plays a critical role in maximizing plant uptime through advanced troubleshooting of electrical, instrumentation, motor control, PLC, VFD, and medium-voltage systems. The ideal candidate will possess strong experience diagnosing complex electrical and control system issues in an industrial environment and have the ability to work safely on equipment ranging from low-voltage controls to 480V and 4160V power distribution systems. This role requires a hands-on problem solver who can quickly identify root causes, implement corrective actions, and support continuous improvement initiatives throughout the operation.
Essential Responsibilities:
Electrical Troubleshooting & Maintenance Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain industrial electrical systems in mining, dredging, and aggregate processing operations. Troubleshoot and repair electrical distribution systems including: 120V, 240V, and 480V systems Medium-voltage 4160V equipment and distribution systems MCCs (Motor Control Centers) Switchgear Transformers Power distribution panels Perform electrical testing using multimeters, megohmmeters, clamp meters, power quality analyzers, and other diagnostic equipment. Troubleshoot motor failures, phase loss conditions, grounding issues, overload conditions, and electrical faults. Read and interpret electrical schematics, ladder logic diagrams, one-line drawings, P&IDs, and equipment manuals. PLC & Automation Systems Troubleshoot PLC-controlled systems and identify faults within automated processes. Work with PLC platforms such as: Allen-Bradley ControlLogix CompactLogix Siemens Other industrial control platforms Assist with PLC programming modifications, troubleshooting I/O issues, communication failures, and process control problems. Diagnose network communication issues involving Ethernet/IP, Modbus, and industrial communication systems. Support plant automation upgrades and process improvement projects. Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) Troubleshoot, configure, repair, and commission VFD systems. Diagnose drive faults, motor performance issues, communication failures, and programming errors. Perform startup and commissioning of new drive installations. Optimize drive settings for pumps, conveyors, classifiers, dredges, screens, and other mining equipment. Work with manufacturers including Allen-Bradley, ABB, Siemens, Yaskawa, Schneider Electric, and similar platforms. Instrumentation & Process Control Troubleshoot and maintain instrumentation systems including: Flow meters Pressure transmitters Level sensors Temperature sensors Proximity switches Belt scales Process monitoring equipment Calibrate and verify instrumentation to ensure operational accuracy. Assist with integration of instrumentation into plant control systems. Preventive & Predictive Maintenance Perform scheduled preventive maintenance inspections on electrical equipment. Utilize predictive maintenance technologies and inspection techniques to identify potential failures before breakdowns occur. Document findings and recommend corrective actions. Participate in reliability improvement initiatives aimed at reducing downtime and increasing equipment performance. Safety & Compliance Actively promote E.R. Jahna's Core Values of Safety, People, Quality, Delivery, and Cost. Perform all work in compliance with MSHA regulations, NFPA 70E requirements, company safety policies, and established lockout/tagout procedures. Safely perform troubleshooting and maintenance on energized and de-energized systems when authorized. Identify and report safety concerns, equipment deficiencies, and operational risks. Participate in safety meetings, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives. Team Support Provide technical support to maintenance personnel and operations teams. Respond to emergency breakdowns and after-hours callouts as required. Assist with capital projects, electrical upgrades, and new equipment installations. Train and mentor less experienced maintenance personnel when appropriate.
Qualifications:
Required:
High School Diploma or GED. Minimum 5 years of industrial electrical experience. Experience troubleshooting industrial electrical systems in mining, manufacturing, aggregate, dredging, or heavy industrial environments.
Experience working with:
480V electrical systems 4160V medium-voltage systems PLC controls VFDs Motor control systems Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings. Valid driver's license.
Preferred:
Industrial Electrician Certification, Journeyman Electrician License, or equivalent military electrical training. Technical School or Associate Degree in Industrial Electricity, Automation, Electronics, or related field. Experience with Allen-Bradley PLC and FactoryTalk systems. Medium-voltage switching and troubleshooting experience. MSHA experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Advanced electrical troubleshooting skills. Strong understanding of industrial control circuits and automation systems. Ability to diagnose complex equipment failures under production pressure. Thorough understanding of motor controls, PLCs, VFDs, instrumentation, and power distribution systems. Strong root cause analysis and problem-solving abilities. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Strong communication and teamwork skills. Proficient computer skills including maintenance systems, email, and electronic documentation.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls. The employee is continually required to walk, sit, climb, or balance, and occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, listen and smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds using a team lift approach. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee most likely be required at times to work long extended hours, shift work (days, afternoons, or nights), and weekend shifts. Must be able to climb up and down a ladder up or stairways to height of 30 +/- feet.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works outside and inside the control room and quality control lab, but most of the time works outside in adverse weather conditions. The employee frequently works near loud moving mechanical parts, frequently exposed to wet, hot and/or humid conditions, and exposed to vibration. Also, the employee continually works around water. Employees must follow all safety guidelines throughout designated shift. Must wear minimum 6" steel toe boots, safety vest, eye protection, hard hat and additional PPE as required.

Pay Rate:
Rate could vary dependent upon experience. Shift differential pay for nights and weekends.
Schedule:
Employee will most likely be required to work long extended hours, shift work (days, afternoons, or nights), and weekend shifts, as required.
Lunch/breaks:
As time permits during shift, does not have a designated break time during shift.
