JOB DESCRIPTION JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction and coordination of the Supervisor II or Electrician ll, performs technical electronic and electrical work involving the installation, alteration, modification, maintenance, repair and calibration of electronic systems and electrical equipment systems, and fixtures.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Performs work under supervision from Electrician II. Performs preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance on electrical and instrumentation systems and performs repair to electrical panels, lighting and circuitry, actuators and controllers. Installs, and repairs electrical equipment, instrumentation equipment, and control systems. Troubleshoots problems, locates and corrects instrument and electrical power failures. Reports and documents results of inspections and work performed. Performs cleanup and housekeeping tasks of the work area, tools and equipment used. The majority of position duties are required to be performed on-site. May transition to independent work after demonstrated knowledge of plant electrical and mechanical systems and endorsement from Electrician II and the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor. Passing a safety/electrical skills test is required. Essential Employees may be required to work during a declared or undeclared emergency. Performs other related job duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the standard tools, materials, methods and practices of the electrical trade and the principles and theory of electricity. Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the electrical trade and working with moderately high voltages. Knowledge of electronic theory, systems, and equipment in regard to maintenance, repair, and calibration of electronic equipment. Skill in the use and care of tools and test equipment. Desire to learn and understand. Ability to follow oral and written instructions and be capable of working alone. Ability to don proper safety equipment to perform tasks safely (respirators, specialty gloves, etc.)
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent required. Minimum of two (2) years' experience in the electrical trade and two (2) years' experience or training in the electronic trade or any equivalent combination of training or experience for a total of greater than four (4) years or four years of experience as an Apprentice Electrician with the City of Cocoa.
Special Qualifications:
For positions requiring the operation of City vehicles, must possess a valid current Florida driver's license, or be able to acquire one within 45 days of hire.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is generally medium and may require exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and up to 30 pounds frequently to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:
Balancing:
Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling while walking, standing or crouching on narrow, or slippery surfaces.
Climbing:
Frequently ascends or descends ladders, stairs, scaffolding, or ramps.
Crawling:
Ability to frequently move on hands and knees or hands and feet.
Crouching:
Ability to frequently bend the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.
Feeling:
Ability to perceive attributes of objects by touch.
Dexterity:
Primarily with fingers, as in picking, pinching, or typing.
Grasping:
Applying pressure with the whole hand.
Handling:
Picking, holding, or otherwise working with the whole hand.
Hearing:
Ability to hear and understand at normal speaking levels with or without correction.
Kneeling:
Ability to frequently bend legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.
Lifting:
Ability to lift and move objects
Mental Acuity:
Ability to make rational decisions. Pulling /
Pushing:
Ability to occasionally move objects up to 100 pounds.
Reaching:
Ability to frequently extend hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
Repetitive Motion:
Substantial movements (motions) of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers. Speaking /
Talking:
Ability to communicate clearly, accurately and concisely through speech.
Standing:
Particularly for sustained periods of time.
Stooping:
Ability to frequently bend body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.
Visual Acuity:
Ability to perform activities such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; and/or extensive reading, operating motor vehicles; including color, depth perception, and field vision.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a dynamic industrial environment that requires the ability to be sensitive to change and responsive to changing goals, priorities, and needs. Work may be performed in both in and out-of-door environments with exposure to the wind, rain, cold, heat, cramped spaces, near dangerous chemicals and equipment and at heights.
