An Electrician works on electrical systems in buildings. Installs electrical wiring and lighting in new construction, and repairs or upgrade wiring, outlets or other parts of older electrical systems. Checks safety and makes installations or repairs that are in compliance with local building codes. May also specialize in electrical work required in different manufacturing industries, electrical systems for cars, plane or boats, or electrical and lighting work in the film industry.
Continuous Description An electrician installs, maintains, and repairs electrical systems, wiring, and equipment, ensuring compliance with safety standards and building codes Examples of Duties Electricians install new electrical wiring, fixtures, and equipment They regularly inspect, maintain, and repair existing electrical systems to ensure they are functioning safely and efficiently Electricians diagnose and resolve electrical problems, using testing devices and their knowledge of electrical theory They interpret blueprints and technical diagrams to plan and execute electrical installations and repairs accurately Electricians follow state and local building regulations, including the National Electrical Code, to ensure safe electrical installations They use a variety of hand tools (like pliers, wire strippers, and screwdrivers) and power tools (like drills and saws) to complete their work They test and inspect electrical work to ensure safe installation and compliance with regulatory codes Other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications Exceptional communication and customer service skills Strong understanding of wiring, circuits and other electrical components Ability to perform electrical tests, read results and diagnose and repair electrical problems Problem -solving and critical thinking skills Effective time management Strong work ethic Understanding of local and national codes, regulations and safety procedures Ability to read blueprints and technical documents All candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without requiring immigration sponsorship, including but not limited to non-immigrant visas, such as H1B, STEM, or F1, now and in the future.
