Public Works About Our Job This is skilled work in the maintenance and repair of traffic signalized lights, streetlights, pedestrian crossing apparatus, radar speed signs, and all components related to the operation and maintenance of lighting systems.
Job Description:
Installs, Maintains and Repairs Traffic Signals Reads blueprints and wiring charts Installs and maintains aerial traffic signal equipment Performs traffic signal controller cabinet maintenance and cleaning Repairs and replaces vehicle detectors & pedestrian detectors Installs, maintains & tests video equipment used to monitor traffic and detect vehicles Installs conduit above and below ground Programs and tests traffic signal controllers Installs, maintains, repairs and operates all types of school flashers Installs, maintains, repairs and operates pedestrian crossing apparatus Test, services/repairs fiber optic and copper cable communication circuits Installs and maintains illuminated and non-illuminated aerial signs Installs and maintains video equipment Installs and maintains various types of electronic equipment Maintains and repairs streetlights Reads blueprints and wiring charts Replaces and maintains street-light installations Performs acceptance inspections of new traffic signal & street-light installations Performs locates of underground cables and facilities Locates, marks with paint and flags, all underground conduits for street lighting, traffic signals and communications circuits Installs, maintains and repairs remote traffic count equipment
Work Hours:
Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. On-Call Required.
About You Minimum Qualifications:
A High School Diploma or its equivalent and two (2) years with electronics and/or electrical devices. Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License. Must have or receive a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class "B" License within six (6) months from date of hire - (will not pass probationary period if not completed). This position will require an IMSA Level I and II Certification within three (3) years of employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Possession of IMSA Certifications Level I & II or Journeymen Electrician and Work Zone Safety preferred. Prior electrical or electronic knowledge or training preferred.
Job Competencies:
Knowledge of electrical equipment and wiring theories and/or electronic maintenance practices.
Physical Demands:
Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Subject to

This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five (5) years.
