An Electrician works on electrical systems in buildings. Job Description

JOB Assists a skilled electrician in the performance of work connected with the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, equipment and appurtenant fixtures; and performs other elated duties as required. There is one (1) immediate permanent full-time vacancy with the Department of Public Works - Traffic Division in Hilo. This Electrician Helper, BC-05 position with the Department of Public Works is a career ladder position. The next level in the series is Electrician, BC-10, $6,309/month. Persons hired into career ladder positions must meet minimum qualifications for the next level in the career ladder series, perform work at the higher level, and meet performance requirements to move to the next level in the career ladder series. The eligible list may be used for other permanent and temporary vacancies as they arise during the life of the list. Temporary appointment may lead to conversion to permanent appointment. Monday - Friday; 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Special Working Conditions for vacancy with the
Department of Public Works:
Applicants must be available for stand-by duty and be available for immediate response in cases of emergency (after hours/days off).
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Assists in installing and repairing wiring systems and equipment. Assists in repairing and rewinding electrical equipment. Assists in installing and repairing electric motors and appliances. Assists in replacing light fixtures, street lights, outlets, switches, fuses, breakers, and lay controls. Checks traffic lights for correct operation and assists in making repairs if necessary. Assists in the installation of traffic lights. Assists in installing cable and in preparing, tinning, and wiping metals. Prepares lugs, nipples, and taps, and assists in installing racks and lacing cable. Assists in the installation of oil circuit breakers, transformers and other equipment in electrical distribution stations. Makes minor repairs and adjustments to electrical fixtures and motors. Assists in making repairs to electric motors. Cleans tools and equipment. May operate a vehicle to transport materials and employees; may operate a heavy truck with aerial bucket (GVW of 33,000 pounds). Performs other related duties as assigned.
