Actively Hiring! | Licensed Journeyman Electrician | Cedar Rapids, IA | Apply Now! Job Description This role offers an experienced licensed journeyman electrician the opportunity to work on a large hyperscale data center project, performing complex installations, startups, troubleshooting, and commissioning of commercial and industrial electrical systems. You will interpret technical drawings, execute critical energization and switching procedures, support commissioning activities, and ensure all work meets applicable codes, safety standards, and client expectations. The position also involves mentoring apprentices, collaborating closely with field leadership and project teams, and contributing to continuous improvement through post‑project reviews. Responsibilities Perform installations, startups, troubleshooting, commissioning, and preventative maintenance for commercial and industrial electrical systems in accordance with drawings, codes, and safety standards. Execute First Time Energization (FTE), switching operations, AutoLOTO procedures, load‑bank connections and removals, and provide Level 3-5 commissioning support. Read and interpret blueprints, one‑line diagrams, riser diagrams, schematics, and installation plans to lay out conduit, cable tray, devices, and associated equipment. Install and terminate underground and overhead primary feeders, ensuring proper routing, support, and code compliance. Set and wire pad‑mounted transformers, switchgear, switchboards, and utility metering equipment, including medium‑voltage switchgear where applicable. Install grounding and bonding systems such as ground rings, rods, and grids, and verify continuity and integrity of grounding systems. Perform cable pulling, splicing, and terminations for medium‑voltage conductors and other power and control wiring as required. Install and connect service entrance equipment, ensuring proper overcurrent protection, clearances, and labeling. Install, configure, and test protective relays and metering devices, and verify correct operation in coordination with commissioning teams. Route and secure large conduit banks and bus duct, and torque and test all connections to manufacturer specifications and project requirements. Follow approved Methods of Procedure (MOPs) and all safety protocols, including lockout/tagout practices, and maintain accurate work records and service documentation. Diagnose electrical issues, respond to service calls, recommend system improvements, and complete acceptance testing in coordination with project and client representatives. Support and mentor apprentices by providing guidance on safe work practices, technical skills, and quality standards. Coordinate daily activities and work sequencing with superintendents, project management, and client representatives to meet schedule and quality objectives. Participate in post‑project reviews, document lessons learned, and help implement process improvements on future work. Operate load banks and support functional testing of data center systems, transfer schemes, and switchgear during commissioning. Communicate clearly with team members, supervisors, and clients regarding work progress, issues, and required resources. Essential Skills Active Journeyman Electrician license in Iowa or a reciprocating state, in good standing. Minimum of 7+ years of commercial or industrial electrical experience, including successful completion of an electrical apprenticeship. Minimum of 4+ years hands‑on experience in commercial or industrial electrical installations, maintenance, and troubleshooting. Proficiency in performing installations, startups, troubleshooting, commissioning, and preventative maintenance on commercial and industrial electrical systems. Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, one‑line diagrams, riser diagrams, electrical schematics, and installation plans. Demonstrated experience with conduit layout and bending, cable tray layout, device installation and trim, and routing of large conduit banks and bus duct. Skilled in wiring, terminations, and troubleshooting of transformers, switchgear, switchboards, and utility metering equipment. Experience with medium‑voltage systems, including cable pulling, splicing, and terminations, and medium‑voltage switchgear (if applicable). Knowledge of grounding and bonding systems, including installation of ground rings, rods, and grids. Familiarity with data center systems, transfer schemes, switchgear, controllers, and pneumatic/electrical process controls. Experience executing First Time Energization (FTE), switching operations, AutoLOTO procedures, and supporting Level 3-5 commissioning. Proficiency with load‑bank operations, including safe connection, monitoring, and removal during testing. Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose issues, respond to service calls, and recommend corrective actions. Solid communication and documentation skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team and independently when required. Willingness to submit to a 10‑panel drug screen as part of the hiring process. Willingness to submit to a 7‑year national background check as part of the hiring process. Additional Skills & Qualifications Journeyman Electrician license recognized by Iowa or reciprocal licensing from AK, AR, CO, MN, MT, NE, NH, ND, OK, SD, TX, WI, or WY. Experience working on large commercial or industrial projects, ideally within data center environments. Comfort working from detailed Methods of Procedure (MOPs) and adhering to strict safety and quality standards. Ability to mentor and support apprentices and less experienced electricians in both technical and safety practices. Strong teamwork skills with the ability to coordinate with superintendents, project managers, and client representatives on a busy construction site. Ability to maintain accurate records, service documentation, and test reports for commissioning and turnover. Adaptability to evolving project requirements and willingness to participate in lessons‑learned and continuous improvement efforts. Why Work Here? Work Environment The role is based on a large hyperscale data center construction site with multiple massive buildings under active development. The environment is fast‑paced, highly coordinated, and safety‑driven, with strict adherence to all site rules, regulations, and safety protocols. You will work primarily on site, in and around electrical rooms, equipment yards, and building interiors, frequently interacting with other trades and commissioning teams. Typical working hours are from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with an additional 8‑hour shift on Saturdays from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., totaling approximately 68 hours per week. The schedule includes significant overtime and per diem for 7 days, reflecting the scale and intensity of the project. Work involves using standard and specialized electrical tools and equipment, including conduit bending tools, cable pulling equipment, test instruments, and load banks, while following all required personal protective equipment and site safety practices. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Fairfax, IA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $50.00/hr.
