NATURE OF WORK
This position serves the public with electrical knowledge to maintain, analyze, and repair basic to complex electrical problems in the wastewater plant, enabling the facility to discharge at or below EPA standards.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Under the general direction of the Plant Operations Division Manager, this employee performs work of moderate difficulty in skilled repair and maintenance of electrical devices and appurtenances to a variety of wastewater treatment facilities and equipment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
(Illustrative Only) Calibrates, adjusts, and repairs electrical equipment such as scales, meters, breaker boxes, control panels, motors, switchgear, etc. Ensures that plant operations are in compliance with operating guidelines and state and federal laws. Installs, repairs, and remodels building and control wiring to the specifications of blueprints or schematic diagrams. Performs preventive maintenance on substations and control devices. May perform mechanical maintenance in conjunction with maintenance mechanics. Provides superior internal and external customer service. Represents Four Rivers Sanitation Authority and its policies in a positive manner internally and externally. Adheres to all safety procedures, practices and requirements. Performs other duties as assigned by Management. Must be available for call in as assigned and emergencies as needed.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the general supervision of the Plant Operations Division Manager or other administrative superior who assigns and reviews work. Completed work is reviewed as needed for accuracy and timeliness and for overall results achieved.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Work is performed in a team environment, which may require the need to act as team lead, project coordinator, or project assistant as required. May be required to act as a trainer.
WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This work is performed both indoors and outdoors in all kinds of weather. Employees are required to take appropriate safety precautions to minimize exposure to raw sewerage, odors, noise from machinery, grease, chemicals, and electrical hazards. Standing, walking, reaching, handling equipment and tools, climbing, crawling, squatting and bending are daily physical demands. Occasional lifting of containers weighing over 50 pounds is required. This is a safety-sensitive position.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
(KSAs) Knowledge of installation, removal, maintenance, and repair of all phases of control and power wiring, from 12 VDC to 13,000 VAC, and of electrical equipment and systems. Working skill in following written and verbal instructions, procedures, and processes. Ability to learn, understand, and implement all federal and state laws regarding clean water. Working skill in maintaining and repairing electrical wiring, equipment, and systems. Demonstrated working skill in understanding electrical problems and deciding on proper response. Ability to read blueprints and schematics. Working skill in using hand and power tools; in using calibration and diagnostic devices, such as amp meters and voltage meters. Ability to exercise good judgment in determining if Plant Operations management attention is required. Ability to accept responsibility and work independently; to work with and assist management in maintaining and improving operators' productivity. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as required by the work of the positions. Ability to express ideas effectively, orally and in writing. Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects. Ability to operate smart phone to use relevant applications, including monitoring e-mail, responding to text messaging, and phone calls. Ability to accurately record time and attendance through an electronic timekeeping system. Ability to provide the highest level of internal and external customer service. Ability to maintain reasonable and customary attendance. Ability to be on-call, work overtime and respond to emergencies as needed.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Completion of formal vocational or apprentice program in electrical maintenance or five (5) years of skilled experience in electrical maintenance and repair work, or closely related field; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Illinois driver's license with a driving record suitable to Four Rivers.
