Summary:
The Licensed Electrician Inspector for Industrial Solar PV Systems ensures all completed electrical work is performed safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with NEC, OSHA, and all governing documents, including but not limited to project specifications, IFCs, and all applicable codes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Inspect industrial-scale solar PV systems, including medium- and low-voltage AC systems, central and string inverters, DC collection systems, combiner boxes, recombiners, DC disconnects, step-up transformers, switchgear, and interconnection equipment. Perform inspections of AC and DC wiring, conduit, grounding, bonding, and labeling in accordance with NEC (Articles 690, 705, 480, 250, etc.). Read, interpret, and execute work from single-line diagrams, electrical schematics, and issued-for-construction (IFC) drawings and specifications. Support system commissioning, startup, and utility interconnection activities. Coordinate work with project managers, engineers, safety personnel, and industrial facility representatives. Ensure compliance with governing documents, NEC and local AHJ requirements, OSHA regulations and site-specific safety plans, and
NFPA 70E
electrical safety standards. Prepare and maintain accurate documentation including inspection checklists. Participate in job hazard analyses (JHAs), safety meetings, and audits.
Requirements:
Active Journeyman or Master Electrician license (in good standing). Minimum of 5+ years of electrical experience, including at least 2 years in industrial or large commercial environments. Demonstrated experience with industrial electrical installations and/or inspections, high-current and high-voltage systems, and cable management. Strong working knowledge of NEC, particularly Articles 690, 705, 250, 110, and
NFPA 70E.
Knowledge of electrical safety practices and arc-flash mitigation. Ability to read and interpret complex electrical drawings and specifications. Valid driver's license and ability to access industrial job sites. Ability to pass background checks, drug screening, and site-specific safety requirements.
Education and Experience:
Industrial or utility-scale solar PV experience is preferred.
NABCEP PV
Installation Professional or equivalent certification is preferred. Experience with central inverter systems, medium-voltage equipment and terminations, switchgear, transformers, and SCADA or monitoring systems is preferred.
OSHA 30, NFPA
70E, or equivalent safety certifications are preferred. Prior experience working in active industrial facilities and leadership or foreman-level experience is preferred.
Additional Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Comfortable working at heights and on elevated structures if needed, and in industrial environments with noise, heat, and outdoor exposure. Ability to wear required PPE, including arc-flash-rated clothing. Work environment includes industrial facilities, manufacturing plants, warehouses, and utility-adjacent sites, with a combination of outdoor solar arrays and indoor electrical rooms. Full-time, project-based, or outage-driven work; overtime may be required. Candidates who accept an offer of employment are required to undergo and successfully complete a pre-employment physical examination. This exam ensures that all potential employees meet the necessary health and fitness standards for the role. The examination includes a series of tests and evaluations conducted by a certified medical professional to assess overall physical health, identify any potential medical conditions that could interfere with job performance, and verify that the candidate is capable of safely performing the essential duties of the position.
