Chief Electrician Marine Construction & Dredging — Gulf Coast Full-Time — Dredge Crew, Rotational
COMPANY OVERVIEW
We are a Gulf Coast marine construction and dredging contractor operating four dredges with a workforce of 200+ employees across field, vessel, and home office operations. The majority of our project portfolio is US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE)-funded, with active growth into state-funded and other government-sponsored work alongside an established private sector presence.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Chief Electrician is responsible for the safety, operation, maintenance, and repair of all electrical systems aboard the dredge and attendant plant, with hands-on participation in repair work. The position keeps power generation, distribution, motors, and controls reliable so the dredge stays in production. The Chief Electrician will work parallel with the Chief Mechanic on board the dredge, both reporting to the PortEngineer . This is a live-aboard, rotational position on a working dredge.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Electrical Systems Maintenance & Repair
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair power generation (generators/gensets), switchgear, and electrical distribution aboard the dredge and attendant plant
- Maintain and repair motors, motor controls, starters, and variable-frequency drives for dredge pumps, winches, and auxiliary equipment
- Troubleshoot and repair control systems, alarms, instrumentation, lighting, DQM/production-monitoring sensor power, PLC, ,Basler load sharing, and engine monitoring system
- Perform preventive maintenance per the planned maintenance system, including insulation testing and switchgear inspection
- Diagnose electrical failures and restore equipment to service with minimum downtime, including emergency breakdown response during production
- Support dry-dock repairs, overhauls, and electrical inspections Planning & Documentation
- Maintain critical-spares inventory for electrical systems; requisition parts and materials through the Port Engineer.
- Keep accurate maintenance, breakdown, and repair logs Safety
- Complete Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and/or Activity Hazard Analysis (AHA) before work; follow lockout/tagout and electrical-safety procedures
- Abide by company and worksite safety policies to achieve a "Safety First" workplace
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- 10-15+ years of industrial or marine electrical experience,
- Experience with 480V and 690V three-phase power generation and distribution
- Ability to work an 84-hour work week
- Ability to live aboard a vessel for full rotation
- Ability to understand hand signals and verbal commands in English
- TWIC — Transportation Worker Identification Credential (or ability to obtain)
- Valid driver's license Preferred
- Dredge/vessel time
- Journeyman Electrician license
NFPA 70E
/ arc-flash training
- Cutter suction / hydraulic pipeline dredge experience
- PLC / controls troubleshooting experience
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Work will frequently require individuals to push, pull, bend or stand for long periods of time, and climb stairs and ladders
- Must be able to lift or carry miscellaneous equipment, supplies, and parts up to 50 lbs.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
- Base salary: $110,000 commensurate with experience
