ABOUT BLUE HERON ELECTRIC
Blue Heron Electric is a licensed, insured electrical contractor serving residential and commercial clients across Metro Detroit, Oakland County, and surrounding Michigan communities. Based in Hazel Park, MI, this position is located at 701 E 8 Mile Rd, Hazel Park, MI 48303. We are built on safety-first workmanship, honest pricing, and a commitment to doing the job right the first time. As we continue to grow, we are looking for a skilled Journeyman Electrician who takes pride in their craft and can operate effectively — independently or alongside a team.
POSITION OVERVIEW
As a Journeyman Electrician / Electrical Installer, you will be responsible for a wide range of electrical installations across residential and commercial job sites throughout Michigan. This role is built for someone who can take ownership of their work, manage job-site tasks with minimal supervision, and consistently deliver results that meet Michigan electrical code standards. You will represent Blue Heron Electric professionally in front of customers, communicate clearly about the scope of work, and complete projects on schedule — whether working solo or alongside fellow technicians.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems in residential and commercial settings, including wiring, panels, breakers, outlets, switches, and lighting Read and interpret blueprints, electrical diagrams, and project specifications accurately Perform panel upgrades, service changes, and circuit installations in compliance with the Michigan Electrical Code and NEC standards Install EV chargers, generators, ceiling fans, smoke/CO detectors, surge protection devices, and specialty systems Troubleshoot electrical issues, diagnose problems, and recommend effective solutions Work independently or semi-independently on assigned jobs — managing your time, materials, and site from start to finish Maintain a clean, safe, and organized job site at all times Communicate professionally with customers and keep them informed throughout the project Accurately document work completed, materials used, and any follow-up items needed Coordinate with the office on scheduling, permit inspections, and project updates as needed
REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS
Valid Michigan Journeyman Electrician License — required Minimum 4 years of hands-on electrical installation experience Strong working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and Michigan-specific regulations Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage job-site tasks without constant supervision Proficient in reading blueprints, wiring diagrams, and electrical schematics Reliable transportation and a valid Michigan driver's license Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks including climbing ladders, working in confined spaces, and standing for extended periods Strong communication and professional customer service skills Attention to detail and a safety-first mindset on every job Preferred (not required): Experience with smart home/remodel wiring, pool and hot tub electrical, commercial parking lot lighting, or generator systems.
