Job Title:
Journeyman Electrician Job Description This role offers a hands-on opportunity for a Journeyman Electrician to work in the Traverse City area on a wide range of commercial and industrial new construction and remodel projects. You will partner closely with an apprentice to install, maintain, and upgrade electrical systems in facilities such as offices, churches, car dealerships, dental offices, and manufacturing buildings. You will use your conduit skills, wiring expertise, and blueprint reading ability to deliver safe, reliable, and code-compliant electrical installations. Responsibilities Partner with an apprentice electrician on commercial and industrial new construction and remodel projects in the Traverse City area. Install, bend, and secure various types of electrical conduit for commercial and industrial applications. Pull, route, and terminate electrical wiring for power, lighting, and equipment in accordance with plans and codes. Install outlets, lighting fixtures, switches, panels, and other electrical devices in office, church, automotive dealership, dental, and manufacturing environments. Read, interpret, and follow blueprints, schematics, and electrical drawings to plan and execute installations accurately. Verify that all work complies with applicable electrical codes, safety standards, and project specifications. Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to wiring, circuits, and electrical components during construction and remodels. Collaborate with project teams to sequence work efficiently and coordinate with other trades on the job site. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, ensuring tools and materials are handled properly. Support the training and development of the assigned apprentice by demonstrating best practices and safe work habits. Participate in random drug testing in accordance with company policies and maintain a professional, safety-focused attitude on all job sites. Essential Skills Current Journeyman Electrician status or equivalent journeyman-level electrical experience. Strong experience installing and working with electrical conduit in commercial and industrial settings. Proficiency in pulling, routing, and terminating electrical wiring for power and lighting systems. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and electrical drawings. Hands-on experience with commercial and industrial construction projects, including new builds and remodels. Solid understanding of electrical codes, safety practices, and industry standards. Capability to work effectively with an apprentice and as part of a small field team. Willingness and ability to travel within approximately a 60-minute radius of the Traverse City area, including locations such as Cadillac. Ability to comply with random drug testing and maintain a safety-conscious approach at all times. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous foreman or lead electrician experience, including overseeing crews and coordinating job site activities, is a plus. Experience working in diverse environments such as offices, churches, car dealerships, dental offices, and manufacturing facilities. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot electrical issues in the field. Good communication skills to collaborate with team members, apprentices, and other trades. Organizational skills to manage tools, materials, and job documentation efficiently. Why Work Here? The role is field-based, focusing on commercial and industrial job sites such as offices, churches, car dealerships, dental offices, and manufacturing buildings. You will use standard electrician tools and equipment, including conduit benders, wiring tools, and blueprint or schematic references. The typical schedule is full-time at 40+ hours per week, with the potential for additional hours based on project needs. You will be part of a small, approximately six-person team in the local area, supported by a larger organization with a strong emphasis on culture and customer-focused values. The work environment follows strict safety standards, including random drug testing, and expects professional, job-site-appropriate attire aligned with construction and electrical trade practices. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Traverse City, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $34.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
