An Electrician works on electrical systems in buildings. Installs electrical wiring and lighting in new construction, and repairs or upgrade wiring, outlets or other parts of older electrical systems. Checks safety and makes installations or repairs that are in compliance with local building codes. May also specialize in electrical work required in different manufacturing industries, electrical systems for cars, plane or boats, or electrical and lighting work in the film industry.
The Master Electrician is responsible for performing a variety of electrical trade functions such as the installation, maintenance, or repair of equipment for the generation, distribution, or utilization of electric energy at the Great Lakes Toxicology and Ecology division-Duluth laboratory facility. This position may be expected to respond to after-hour emergency situations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform installation, preventative maintenance and repairs to buildings, physical plant equipment, support equipment, control systems, and utility systems. Test electrical currents or components for continuity, using electrical test equipment. Work from drawings, layouts, blueprints, or other specifications, locating and diagnosing trouble in the electrical system or equipment. Inspect and test systems to verify system compliance with plans and specification or to detect and locate malfunctions. Respond to after-hour emergency situations within 30 minutes of notification. Comply with all applicable standards, policies, and procedures, including safety procedures and the maintenance of a clean work area.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent General Educational Development (GED) Certificate. Must possess and maintain a State Certified Master Electrician License. Minimum of three (3) years relevant work experience in the electrical trade. Knowledge and understanding of the current National Electrical Code (NEC). Knowledge of standard computations relating to load requirements of wiring or electrical equipment. Knowledge of standard environmental methods, practices and techniques used in an industrial or commercial environment, preferably government related environment. Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings. Must have a working knowledge and comply with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations. Must possess a valid driver's license and driving history must meet company standards throughout employment. Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening and a background check as a condition of employment and to obtain access to federal installations.
