This position assists in process set-up, materials movement, coating mixture production and performing other maintenance related tasks as needs arise. Essential Functions 50% Preventive maintenance on fiber coating lines and extrusion equipment. 10% Winder maintenance including computer controls, equipment repairs, troubleshooting and set-up. 15% Coating and extrusion equipment repairs including mechanical and electrical components/controls. 15% Low voltage facility electrical repairs (to 240V, 3 PH), lighting replacement, fume scrubber and effluent tank controls and PH probe calibration, general upkeep and housekeeping. 10% Supplies control & ordering, computerized record keeping, safety checks and safety meetings. Secondary Functions Assist production areas Participate in new product trials Contribute to department housekeeping and safety efforts Assist with coating mixture preparation Specific Job Functions Do preventive maintenance on production lines daily. Remove and clean day tanks, headers, and transfer lines. Grease fittings or maintain & replace automatic greasers, check and replace belts and drives. Troubleshoot winders. Do basic winder maintenance such as replace traverse guides or belts. Replace other ceramic guides and fittings. Replace electrical components, modify computer controls and adjust winding parameters. Minor repairs to finish system. Replace worn or broken coating line parts. Replace brushes on motors and troubleshoot/repair controls.. Replace mix and finish pumps. Safely move and store hazardous materials including but not limited to acid and sodium hydroxide totes. Connect and disconnect hazardous materials to piping. Use Sodium Hydroxide pumping system to load tanks beneath Scrubber System. Neutralize and clean up small spills and leaks while wearing required PPE. Assist in making coating mix. Connect acid totes, check valve positions, and follow mix -making instructions. Understand and operate mix control panel. Meter acids per formulation. Add dry ingredients per formulation. Turn on agitator and set to process. Test mix viscosity as needed. Neutralize and clean up small spills and leaks. Clean up carbon from mix room and do preventive cleanout of floor drains. Requires use of extended personal protective equipment as listed below. Perform all maintenance on extrusion equipment. Troubleshoot and repair heaters, thermocouples, inverter drives, godets/rolls, chip dryers, hoppers, winder, HMI and other controls. Manage caustic supply and support Scrubber operations. Ability to manage to pH and to operate a forklift required. Essential building maintenance. Repair floors, walls, HVAC and fume handling ductwork, pipes and other infrastructure. Minor electrical maintenance (i.e. unwiring of motor connections, rewiring motor connections, changing overhead lighting and ballasts, etc.) Perform safety checks on equipment, guards, ladders, electrical outlets and wiring. Other general duties and functions within the scope of this job description. Required Education High school diploma or equivalent required Technical trade school or employer certification preferred Required Skills and Experience 3 years industrial maintenance experience at competent level to include mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems: Electrical safety training including lockout/tagout and Arc Flash General knowledge of plumbing fittings (PVC, stainless, tubing) along with some basic mechanical experience using both standard and metric tools Welding experience is beneficial but not required Must have knowledge of AC/DC electrical wiring, industrial electrical components, circuit design and computerized controls plus working knowledge of PLCs Have knowledge of lubricants and application methods Physical Requirements and Work Environment Ability to lift 50 lbs to waist height Ability to bend, climb, kneel, sit, walk, run, and stand Ability to climb ladders and work in elevated and crouching positions Hand /finger agility: grasp, move, adjust Must be able to be fitted for a respirator Manufacturing environment: not uniformly heated / cooled, exposure to dust/ fumes
