Job Description

Position Overview The Solar Electrical Field Technician 3 is responsible for the commissioning, operation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of utility-scale solar farms and commercial/ industrial rooftop photovoltaic (PV) systems. This role requires a strong foundation in electrical systems, hands-on diagnostic skills, and a commitment to safety in high-voltage environments. Comprehensive on-the-job training and manufacturer-specific certifications will be provided. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Perform scheduled and corrective maintenance on utility-scale solar farms and rooftop PV systems, including inverters, combiners, disconnect switches, transformers, and associated electrical infrastructure. Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical faults across DC and AC systems including string- level and module-level issues, inverter faults, communication errors, and grid interconnection problems. Inspect, test, and maintain high-voltage equipment including medium-voltage switchgear, pad-mount transformers, and substation components in compliance with applicable codes and safety standards. Commission new solar installations including verifying wiring, conducting insulation resistance (Megger) testing, I-V curve tracing, and coordinating energization with utility representatives. Perform thermal imaging, irradiance measurements, and power quality analysis to proactively identify system inefficiencies or equipment degradation. Maintain, calibrate, and repair monitoring equipment, combiner boxes, meters, and data loggers. Ensure all work is performed in compliance with
OSHA, NFPA
70E, NEC, and Revision Solar safety policies including energized electrical work permit procedures, lockout/ tagout (LOTO), and arc flash mitigation. Maintain complete and accurate service records, work orders, and equipment maintenance logs using company software platforms. Communicate effectively with site supervisors, plant operators, utility representatives, and OEM technical support teams. Assist with interdepartmental activities as needed, including civil or SFM activities. maintenance tasks and supporting third-party inspections or audits. Respond to emergency callouts, equipment failures, and weather-related events in a timely and effective manner. Participate in ongoing safety meetings, toolbox talks, and technical training sessions. Education and/or Work Experience Requirements Valid driver's license with a clean driving record required. Must have reliable, insured transportation to and from work locations. Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience in electrical construction, maintenance, or solar PV installation preferred; entry-level candidates with relevant education and demonstrated aptitude will be considered. Apprentice Electrician license or equivalent state licensure preferred; willingness to obtain licensure required. OSHA 10 certification required at minimum; OSHA 30 preferred. Certification assistance provided by employer.
NFPA 70E
Electrical Safety training or demonstrated equivalent knowledge of arc flash and shock hazard protocols. Experience working with string inverters, central inverters, or microinverters (SMA, SolarEdge, ABB, Fronius, Enphase, or similar) is a strong plus. Familiarity with SCADA platforms, monitoring systems, and inverter communication protocols (Modbus, SunSpec) is desirable. Proficiency with standard electrical test equipment: multimeters, clamp meters, Meggers, I-V curve tracers, thermal cameras, and power quality analyzers. Ability to read and interpret single-line diagrams, electrical schematics, and site plans. Basic computer and mobile application proficiency required for work order management, reporting, and communication. Ability to travel and work on-call during off-shift hours and weekends as operational needs require. Strong ability to work independently, take direction, and manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision. Effective verbal and written communication skills; bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus but not required. A per diem of $50.00 per day will be provided for overnight/away assignments. Physical Requirements / Work Environment Work is performed in outdoor field environments and occasionally in site offices; exposure to all weather conditions should be expected. Must comply with all safety standards and procedures. PPE required at all times, including but not limited to: arc-rated (AR) clothing, hard hat, steel-toed boots, safety glasses, hearing protection, insulated gloves, and voltage-rated tools. Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, kneel, bend, climb, and walk for 8-10 hours per day. Must be able to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis. Must be comfortable working at heights (rooftop systems) and in confined or restricted spaces as applicable. A company-provided DOT physical examination will be required after the start date.
