Job Title:
Marine Deck Electrician Up to $27/hr + $140 per diem Job Description This role focuses on installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting electrical systems in a shipyard environment, with a strong emphasis on marine and industrial applications. The Marine Deck Electrician reads and interprets shipboard electrical documentation, performs hands-on cable and equipment work, and ensures that all electrical installations meet safety, quality, and performance standards. Responsibilities Read and interpret shipboard electrical installation drawings, wiring tables, schematics, and work packages to plan and execute electrical work accurately. Work independently with clear instructions, managing assigned tasks from start to completion with minimal supervision. Perform general deck electrician duties, including laying out and mounting electrical equipment and wireways in accordance with specifications. Install cable penetrations in equipment, bulkheads, and decks, ensuring proper sealing and compliance with safety and structural requirements. Install, route, and secure electrical cables throughout the vessel or industrial facility, following established standards and practices. Perform cable terminations, cut-in, and hook-up of electrical equipment, ensuring reliable connections and proper labeling. Use basic electrical meters and test instruments, such as volt-ohm meters, clamp-on ammeters, and insulation resistance testers, to test, diagnose, and verify electrical systems. Repair, construct, install, troubleshoot, and maintain routine electrical systems and equipment used in marine and industrial environments. Modify, align, calibrate, design, program, install, test, troubleshoot, and maintain routine electrical and control systems, including a wide variety of industrial infrastructure and production equipment. Cut, thread, bend, couple, and strap conduit as required for new installations and modifications. Troubleshoot electrical malfunctions by inspecting circuits and wiring for proper shielding and grounding and test electrical equipment for safety and efficiency. Perform wiring and pulling wire activities, including routing, securing, and protecting conductors in accordance with electrical standards. Carry out stud shooting operations after successfully completing required training and vision testing, ensuring proper installation and safety. Follow all safety procedures and work practices while working at heights, in confined spaces, and in various shipyard and industrial environments. Collaborate with other trades and team members to coordinate work, resolve issues, and support project schedules in the shipyard environment. Essential Skills Minimum of three (3) years of experience in the electrical field, specifically in Industrial, Marine, or Commercial Nuclear applications. Ability to read and interpret shipboard electrical installation drawings, wiring tables, schematics, and work packages. Proficiency in using basic electrical meters and test instruments, including volt-ohm meters, clamp-on ammeters, and insulation resistance testers. Proficiency in using basic electrician hand tools such as pliers, wrenches, sockets, screwdrivers, and connector crimping tools. Demonstrated ability to perform general deck electrician work, including mounting electrical equipment and wireways, installing cable penetrations, cable installation, cable terminations, and cut-in and hook-up tasks. Physical ability to climb vertical and inclined stairs and ladders, crawl, bend, stoop, work at heights, and work in confined spaces in a shipyard environment. Experience troubleshooting electrical malfunctions, inspecting circuits and wiring for shielding and grounding, and testing electrical equipment for safety and efficiency. Shipyard experience working in a marine or industrial setting. Ability to successfully complete Stud Shooting training and pass the associated vision test. Level 3 experience with five (5) years of related electrical work and a High School diploma or GED preferred. Additional Skills & Qualifications High School diploma or GED is preferred. Certification in an electrical or related technical area is preferred. Experience in marine, shipyard, industrial, or commercial nuclear environments. Familiarity with control systems, industrial infrastructure, and production equipment. Ability to modify, align, calibrate, design, program, install, and test routine electrical systems and equipment. Comfort working outdoors and in industrial shipyard conditions. Work Environment This position is based in a shipyard environment with predominantly outdoor and industrial working conditions. You will work around active shipbuilding and repair operations, which may involve noise, varying weather conditions, and physically demanding tasks. The role requires frequent climbing of vertical and inclined ladders and stairs, working at heights, bending, stooping, crawling, and performing tasks in confined spaces. You will regularly use basic electrician tools, electrical test instruments, and equipment such as volt-ohm meters, clamp-on ammeters, insulation resistance testers, and conduit tools. Standard industrial attire and appropriate personal protective equipment are required to ensure safety in the shipyard and industrial work areas. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Raleigh, NC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $21.36 - $37.31/hr.
