Basic Function:
Performs complex skilled electrical work in the installation, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of electrical equipment and systems using proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), Lockout/Tag out procedures and safe work practices. Reports to Electrical Supervisor or designated Supervisor. Additional Basic Function
Examples of Duties:
Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following: Performs electrical work for the layout, installation, and maintenance of electrical power systems, both inside and outside, including underground, overhead and building wiring, substations, transformers, protective devices, breakers, switches, panels, fuses, controls, lighting systems and related wiring devices. Performs scheduled preventive maintenance on electrical equipment which may include (but is not limited to) transformers, electrical panels and the switching of medium voltage equipment. Performs electrical work in tunnels and confined spaces. May be required to use aerial lift or bucket truck when performing work in high locations. Troubleshoots and maintains electrical equipment for HVAC and refrigeration equipment. Reads and utilizes One Line Diagrams, blue prints and drawings to perform required electrical work. May train non-skilled employees in proper electrical procedures and maintenance of electrical equipment. Performs work on roofs and high locations. May train and direct student employees or employees in a lower pay grade in proper electrical procedures; may participate in training new employees. May assist other skilled tradespersons. May perform a variety of tasks during emergency situations as required. Performs related duties as required. Additional Examples of Duties
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent. A minimum of five years of verifiable skilled industrial or commercial electrical experience. May be called to work in emergency situations. Requires on and off-campus travel.
License/Certification:
Successful completion of formal electrician apprenticeship training program resulting in an electrical journeyman's certification; Valid Ohio driver's license with safe driving record.
Knowledge Of:
Electrical theory and principles Electrical wiring systems

Personal Protective Equipment Skill In:
Reading blueprints (schematics, one line diagrams and wiring diagrams)
- Installation, maintenance, repair, design, and testing of electrical equipment and systems
- Mathematics associated with trade applications such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
- Reading (e.g., technical manuals), writing, (e.g., work logs), and accurately follow oral, written, and graphic instructions
- Diagnosing problems and determining appropriate action
- Utilizing computerized equipment (e.g., laptops, personal computers and direct digital controllers) Utilizing hand and power tools Installation, operation and troubleshooting of motor controls
- Bending electrical conduit
Ability To:
Demonstrate work processes, train others and provide performance feedback Communicate with University personnel and public (e.g., to gather information about needed repairs, to explain problems encountered)

Physical Requirements:
Exposed to dirt, odors, moisture/wetness, heights, variable temperatures and weather conditions, loud equipment noise, potentially dangerous equipment (e.g. hand and power tools), light chemical substances (e.g. cleaning solutions), electricity and occasional high voltage; requires moderate physical exertion to include frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds (e.g. motors, repair parts), occasional lifting of up to 100 pounds (e.g. purge pump), climbing ladders, extended periods of walking and standing, and working in crawl spaces.
Working Schedule:
Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; however, schedule may vary to meet departmental needs.
