An Electrician works on electrical systems in buildings. Installs electrical wiring and lighting in new construction, and repairs or upgrade wiring, outlets or other parts of older electrical systems. Checks safety and makes installations or repairs that are in compliance with local building codes. May also specialize in electrical work required in different manufacturing industries, electrical systems for cars, plane or boats, or electrical and lighting work in the film industry.

Job Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following: Plans details of work order procedures; gathers required tools and materials based on instructions and specifications provided for the job Reads electrical blueprints and performs electrical wiring tasks based on blueprints, electrical layout diagrams and models of electrical components Determines terminal block component specifications and creates terminal blocks according to terminal block diagrams Creates wiring diagrams for electrical control cabinets and connecting units based on electrical blueprints Adheres to manufacturing work instructions and quality requirements Performs quality checks on electrical components at certain points throughout the operations Maintains, organizes, and cleans equipment and the work area Notifies supervisor when faulty equipment or defective materials are discovered Performs other related duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities) Completion of an electrician program at a technical or trade school preferred Minimum of one year of electrical experience Ability to read and understand electrical blueprints, schematics and diagrams Working knowledge of electrical theory and associated principles, materials and equipment Demonstrated ability to operate hand and power tools associated with electrical work Ability to calculate basic mathematical problems Physical Demands and Work Environment The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Must be able to see details at close range. Must be able to traverse facilities and machinery by climbing, balancing, lifting, walking, stooping, and carrying materials. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands or fingers, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move 30 to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Physically able to conduct inspections and carry equipment used for inspections.
