Position Information Posting Number S06741P Position Title Senior Electrician Department Facilities Mgmt_Utilities Location Arlington Position Status Full-time Work Schedule Monday - Friday; 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Salary Hourly Rate is commensurate based on qualifications and relevant experience up to $33 Pay Basis Hourly Job Summary The Senior Electrician provides advanced journeyman-level installation, maintenance, and service of electrical systems. Responsible for the prompt performance of assigned electrical and related duties. Includes assisting the Supervisor in supervising semi‑skilled and skilled staff. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Maintain the automated work order system.
This includes:
Issuing work orders to the electrical personnel and making sure work has been performed. Speaking with faculty and staff on the needs of the users and setting up times for work to be performed. Ordering material needed to complete work orders. Installs and repairs underground electrical conduit and wire for pole lighting and services.This Includes:
Digging or running a trencher for new underground conduit, laying out the locations of new pole lighting or services, repairing broken underground conduits, tracing out underground damaged wires and replacing them with new and locating underground electrical for DIGTESS. Installs new electrical services to buildings and extends old services. This includes the removal of old feeders, underground trenching to location, and the sizing and pulling of new feeders per NEC. Removing old switchgear and installing new. Replacing breakers in switchgear and panels. Estimate cost for electrical work needed for research or other needs.This requires:
Having knowledge of electrical material, building practices, and national electrical code. Installs, maintains, and repairs transformers, generators, control panels, switches, circuit breakers, outlets, fixtures, fittings, and accessories. This includes the layout and installation of luminaries, working on energized parts, tracing out electrical circuits, installing and testing generators and ATS, installing new transformers and installing new outlets and switches in remodeled renovations. Must have experience in the demo of existing and install new electrical to renovation projects throughout the campus.This Includes:
Reading the blueprints, tracking cost, writing change orders, speaking with Architects and Engineers, installing panels, outlets, switches, and luminaries, calculating loads, and installing conduit and wire for new feeders and branch circuits. Assist the electrical supervisor in day-to-day operations.This includes:
The supervision of all electrical personnel and campus electrical operations, including training and mentorship of shop personnel. Must be able to take over the supervisor's role when he is not on campus. Respond to on-call electrical emergencies Before/During/After Normal hours of operations.This includes:
Fires, electrical outages, floods, and icy conditions. Must have knowledge of the campus electrical distribution, how to identify the problem, plan for appropriate action, communicate severity, and fix the problem. Install new electrical needed for research equipment and assist other departments with troubleshooting electrical problems and installation of new equipment. Assist with the installation of electricals for special events.This Includes:
concerts, student move-in, homecoming, graduation ceremonies, Special Olympics, highland games, special dinners, student welcoming day, sporting events, and other student activity events. Must be able to pass and maintain yearly training.This includes:
Electrical continuing education, hazardous communication, security training, drivers education, first aid training, asbestos training, boom lift training, scissor lift training, bucket lift training, NFPA 70 training, and forklift training. Drives a UTA vehicle. Performs other duties assigned. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent and electrical journeyman's license. Seven (7) years of experience as a licensed electrical journeyman. This position requires you to have and maintain a Texas Class "C" Operator's Driver's License and three (3) years of acceptable driving history. Preferred Qualifications Must be familiar with NFPAA 70,101 and 1. Master Electrician's License. Two (2)+ years of lead or supervisory experience. Experience on large university campuses. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of all types of electrical equipment and use of hand power tools common to the electrical trade. Accurate in all phases or work performed. Able to operate one-man lifts, boom lifts, bucket trucks, and scissor lifts. Knowledge of medium voltage (15KV) terminations and testing. Other Requirements Alertness and careful attention are required to avoid injury to self and others. This role is considered an essential position; therefore, it may be necessary to report to work when essential personnel are required to respond to campus. Workplace and Eligibility Conditions Conditions involve exposure to all weather elements and medium to high electrical voltage. Must be able to work off ladders, scaffolding, and tops/roofs of buildings. Ability to lift, push, pull, bend, stand, sit, kneel, and squat. Working conditions occasionally involve exposure to one or more disagreeable elements such as biohazards, toxic lab chemicals, poisonous gases, dust, dirt, and the need to work in confined spaces, extreme cold or hot temperatures, and all-weather conditions.
