This position is focused specifically on the electrical scope of residential generator installations, including automatic transfer switches, service equipment connections, generator feeders and control wiring, grounding and bonding, load management devices, startup, testing, and commissioning. The ideal candidate is a skilled residential electrician who is comfortable working around service equipment and understands how standby power systems integrate with a home's existing electrical system. Previous generator installation experience is strongly preferred, but we are also interested in experienced electricians who can quickly learn manufacturer-specific installation requirements. Responsibilities Install residential standby generators, primarily Generac systems. Install and wire automatic transfer switches (ATS). Make electrical connections between the generator, transfer switch, utility service, and home electrical system. Perform service disconnect, service entrance, meter, and panel-related electrical work as required for generator installations. Install generator feeders, control wiring, conduits, fittings, disconnects, breakers, and related electrical components. Install and configure load management / load shedding devices when required. Properly complete grounding and bonding of generator systems in accordance with NEC and local requirements. Verify conductor sizing, overcurrent protection, equipment ratings, and installation requirements. Perform generator startup, operational testing, and commissioning. Verify proper transfer between utility and standby power. Troubleshoot electrical and control-related generator issues. Read and interpret electrical diagrams, manufacturer installation manuals, and one-line drawings. Identify installation issues in the field and communicate required corrections before work is completed. Ensure installations meet NEC, AHJ, manufacturer, and company standards. Prepare installations for electrical inspection and correct deficiencies when necessary. Document completed work, testing, photos, and commissioning information. Maintain a clean and professional jobsite and provide a positive customer experience. Follow all company electrical and safety procedures. Experience Residential electrical installation experience required. Experience working with 200A residential electrical services, electrical panels, service equipment, and disconnects. Strong understanding of residential wiring methods and the National Electrical Code. Ability to safely work around energized and de-energized service equipment. Ability to read electrical diagrams and equipment specifications. Understanding of grounding and bonding requirements. Ability to bend and install conduit and complete clean, professional electrical installations. Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills. Valid driver's license and ability to travel to residential jobsites within the assigned market. Ability to lift and handle electrical equipment and materials associated with residential installations. Preferred Qualifications Previous residential standby generator installation experience. Experience installing Generac generators and automatic transfer switches. Generac factory training or certification. Experience with Generac SACM, Smart Management Modules (SMMs), load management systems, and transfer switches. Experience performing generator startup and commissioning. Experience with service upgrades or service equipment replacement. Familiarity with residential generator permitting and inspection requirements. Journeyman, Master Electrician, or other applicable electrical license where required.
