This position will support the Estimator in developing accurate and competitive bids for underground wet and dry utility projects , including water, sewer, storm drain, and fireline work. The ideal candidate is analytical, organized, and eager to build a career in construction estimating. You will gain hands-on experience with quantity take-offs, subcontractor and supplier pricing, site assessments, and bid preparation, with opportunities for professional growth as your skills and experience develop. This is an in-person position that requires a combination of office-based estimating work and regular visits to active project sites. Candidates should be comfortable working in an office environment as well as traveling to construction sites to assess conditions and gather information necessary for accurate estimates. Key Responsibilities Assist in preparing detailed construction estimates for underground utility projects, including materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs. Perform accurate material and labor quantity take-offs from plans, specifications, and drawings using digital takeoff software. Obtain, evaluate, and compare pricing from material suppliers and subcontractors while developing strong vendor relationships. Conduct project site visits to assess existing conditions and identify factors that may impact project costs. Assist with preparing complete and accurate bid proposals and project budgets. Maintain and update a project bid tracker, monitoring opportunities throughout the estimating process. Assist with post-bid buyouts and subcontractor coordination. Work closely with Project Managers and Superintendents to understand production rates, project conditions, and field operations to continually improve estimate accuracy. Support the Estimator and project team with research, documentation, and other estimating-related activities. Qualifications 1-3 years of experience in construction estimating or a related construction field; underground utility experience highly preferred. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, construction drawings, plans, and specifications. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel. Experience with PlanSwift, Bluebeam, or other estimating/takeoff software is a plus. Strong analytical and organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with project managers, superintendents, subcontractors, suppliers, and clients. Ability and willingness to regularly visit active construction sites. Strong desire to learn and grow within the construction estimating profession. Work Environment & Location In-person position Combination of office-based estimating and project site visits Regular travel to active construction sites is required.
