About the Role The General Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate, detailed, and competitive cost estimates for commercial construction projects across multiple trades, including mechanical, plumbing, piping, and electrical scopes. This includes performing material and labor takeoffs, analyzing project specifications, coordinating with internal teams, and supporting successful project execution from preconstruction through turnover. This role works closely with the Chief Estimator, Vice President of Estimating, Project Managers, and Purchasing to ensure estimates are aligned with company standards and project requirements. This is an In-Office position. We do not offer a "Remote or Hybrid" schedule. Culture Index Survey As part of our process, we ask candidates to complete a short Culture Index survey. Please use the link below and select General Estimator when prompted: https://go.cultureindex.com/s/COSzCJpKvh Responsibilities Coordinate backlog and bidding priorities with the Chief Estimator and VP of Estimating Participate in weekly estimating meetings to review bid opportunities and timelines Review project plans and specifications to identify scope requirements, discrepancies, and approved materials across multiple trades Attend pre-construction meetings to gather critical bid information Investigate remodel and retrofit projects to confirm existing conditions and system requirements Analyze project schedules for duration, manpower requirements, and potential impacts such as overtime or liquidated damages Perform detailed material, labor, and equipment takeoffs for mechanical, plumbing, piping, and related systems Prepare comprehensive bid recaps, scope letters, and proposal documentation Identify value engineering opportunities to improve project cost efficiency Maintain and update estimating databases including material pricing and classifications Utilize FastEST or similar estimating software to develop accurate estimates Prepare project budgets and turnover documentation upon award Support Project Managers and Purchasing with clarifications, submittals, and change orders Review contracts to ensure alignment with bid scope, exclusions, and assumptions Qualifications
EDUCATION
High School Diploma or equivalent required; construction or engineering-related education preferred
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Minimum 5+ years of commercial estimating experience (MEP experience strongly preferred)
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE
