Job Description

Who Are We? Pacific Steel, Inc. is a locally owned company that has been serving our community since 2005. Our work experience is primarily based in Yuma County, but we have performed work in California and the surrounding area. We are able to fabricate and install structural steel for new buildings, commercial remodels, and shade structures; miscellaneous ornamental metal work, as well as plasma cutting services are also within our capabilities. Our team is well versed in roof joist installation and metal deck work, and has a small rebar fabrication outfit as well.
Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Structural Steel Estimator to join our team! The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for structural steel projects by analyzing drawings, specifications, and other documentation.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Review and analyze project drawings, specifications, and bid documents
  • Perform quantity takeoffs for structural steel, miscellaneous metals, and related components
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates that accurately predict labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor pricing
  • Solicit and evaluate quotes for vendors and subcontractors
  • Identify potential risk (and submit questions prior to bid), cost-saving opportunities, and value engineering options
  • Effectively communicate with project managers, field operations, administrative staff, and outside personnel
  • Prepare and submit bid proposals within deadlines
  • Constantly review backlog of projects and bid work to fill gaps in the schedule
Qualifications:
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in structural steel estimating or related construction estimating experience; a combination of construction management or field experience is suitable too
  • Strong understanding of structural steel fabrication and erection processes
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and shop drawings
  • Bilingual is preferred but not a requirement of the position
  • Excellent attention to detail and organization skills
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities
  • Preferred knowledge of AISC standards and industry practices
  • Knowledge of HCSS Field and HCSS Heavy Bid is preferred but not a requirement
Pay:
$30.00 - $35.00 per hour
