Job Description

Construction Estimator (Concrete & Civil/Underground)Position OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Construction Estimator to join our team and lead cost estimating for concrete, civil and underground construction projects. The successful candidate will prepare accurate, competitive estimates and bids, analyze project plans and specifications, collaborate with project managers and subcontractors, and support preconstruction activities to ensure profitable, successful project execution.

Key ResponsibilitiesAnalyze drawings, specifications and project documents to prepare detailed quantity takeoffs and cost estimates for concrete, civil and underground construction projects.

Develop competitive bid proposals including material, labor, equipment and subcontractor costs, as well as allowances, contingencies and risk assessments.

Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes; build and maintain vendor relationships to obtain competitive pricing and reliable availability.

Collaborate with project managers, engineers and field personnel to clarify scope, identify constructability issues, and incorporate value engineering and cost-saving opportunities.

Prepare bid summaries, estimate reports and supporting documentation; present recommendations to management and participate in bid review meetings.

Maintain and update estimating databases, unit cost libraries and historical cost records to improve estimation accuracy and efficiency.

Monitor market conditions, material pricing trends and labor rates specific to concrete, civil and underground sectors to adjust estimates accordingly.

Support contract negotiations and assist in transitioning awarded projects to operations by providing detailed takeoff and scope documentation for project teams.

QualificationsMinimum 3 years of estimating experience in construction, with emphasis on concrete, civil and underground construction projects.

Proven proficiency with quantity takeoff and estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, PlanSwift, Timberline/Excel-based systems) and strong Excel skills.

Solid understanding of concrete placement, formwork, reinforcement, excavation, shoring, dewatering, and underground utilities installation methods and associated costs.

Strong analytical, organizational and attention-to-detail skills with the ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with internal teams, subcontractors and suppliers.

Experience preparing bid proposals, scope documents and risk assessments; familiarity with contract types and terms commonly used in civil construction.

Relevant technical diploma or degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering Technology or related field preferred; professional certifications (e.g., Certified Estimator - AACE or ASPE) a plus.

Valid drivers license and willingness to visit job sites and suppliers as needed.
