Defender Contracting & Construction is seeking a motivated Federal Construction Estimator to support our growing operations at Edwards Air Force Base and Fort Irwin, California. This position is responsible for developing accurate, competitive estimates for a variety of federal construction projects supporting the U.S. military and other federal agencies. Our work includes SABER, JOC, Design-Build, and 8(a) Sole Source projects ranging from facility renovations and repairs to mission-critical infrastructure improvements. The successful candidate will work closely with project management and executive leadership to develop quality proposals while supporting the nation's warfighters. This position is based at Edwards Air Force Base and supports construction estimates throughout DCC's Mojave Desert installations. Primary Responsibilities Prepare detailed construction estimates using RSMeans Online and e4Clicks (or equivalent estimating software). Develop complete pricing packages for SABER, JOC, Design-Build, and federal construction projects. Review plans, specifications, scopes of work, and government requirements. Perform quantity takeoffs and cost analyses. Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier pricing. Coordinate with project managers, superintendents, and executive leadership during proposal development. Participate in site visits and pre-bid walkthroughs. Identify project risks, value engineering opportunities, and cost-saving solutions. Assist with pricing modifications, change orders, and negotiated work. Maintain current knowledge of federal construction practices, labor rates, material costs, and market trends. Support project requirements across Edwards AFB, Fort Irwin Army Post, and other locations. Minimum Qualifications Minimum 5 years of construction estimating experience. Experience using RSMeans Online, e4Clicks, or comparable estimating software. Strong understanding of commercial or federal construction methods. Ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications. Strong Microsoft Excel and computer skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple estimates simultaneously. U.S. Citizenship required. Ability to obtain and maintain access to U.S. military installations. Preferred Qualifications Federal construction estimating experience. SABER or JOC estimating experience. Design-Build estimating experience. Experience estimating renovation, repair, and facility sustainment projects. Experience working on Air Force, Army, USACE, or NAVFAC projects. Compensation Target Salary:
$90,000-$135,000, depending on qualifications and relevant federal construction experience.
