The company specializes in demolitions, excavation, swimming pool removal and drainage and landscaping. Responsibilities
Quantity Takeoffs:
Measuring and quantifying every material needed for a project (e.g., cubic yards of concrete, linear feet of piping).Bid Preparation:
Compiling detailed cost proposals, including direct costs, indirect overhead, and profi t margins, to secure new contracts.Subcontractor Coordination:
Soliciting, reviewing, and negotiating quotes from various trade partners and vendors.Site Inspections:
Visiting potential project sites to identify physical constraints (e.g., difficult access, drainage issues) that may impact costs.Risk Assessment:
Identifying potential project delays or price fl uctuations (e.g., weather, material shortages) and building contingencies into the budget.Value Engineering:
Recommending alternative materials or methods to reduce costs without compromising project quality.- Work with project managers, engineers, and clients to refi ne estimates.
- Monitor actual costs against estimates throughout the project lifecycle. Core Skills
Blueprint Reading:
Proficiency in interpreting 2D drawings, 3D models, and technical specifications.Mathematical Proficiency :
Advanced skills in algebra, geometry, and basic statistics for complex volume and area calculations.Technical Software:
Expertise in estimating software such as Building Connect, Plan hub, and Microsoft Excel.Analytical Thinking:
Ability to evaluate historical data and market trends to forecast future project expenses accurately.Communication:
Negotiating with suppliers and presenting detailed fi nancial reports to clients and project managers. Education and Career PathsEducation:
A Bachelor's degree in construction management, civil engineering, or architecture is typically preferred. However, some enter the role through extensive fi eld experience in the trades.- Certifi cations: Professional credentials such as the Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) or Certified Estimating Professional (CEP) are highly valued.
Specializations:
Estimators may specialize in specifi c areas such as electrical, mechanical (MEP), civil engineering, or residential construction.Salary :
$89,800, with senior roles $150,000/per year Monday- Friday 7:00am
- 3:30pm Mileage Reimbursement and/or a Company Vehicle Provided Commissions on what you sell
