This is an excellent opportunity to join a collaborative, field-focused team where estimating plays a critical role in project success from concept through execution. This role is open to candidates with 5+ years of estimating experience, including those coming from related or technically complex construction sectors (civil, underground, mechanical, structural, or similar). Direct utility experience is highly valued but not required for the right individual with strong fundamentals and the ability to learn quickly. Position Overview The Estimator will be responsible for developing accurate, competitive, and well-structured project estimates, while working closely with operations and leadership to ensure alignment between preconstruction planning and field execution. This role goes beyond takeoffs. You will help define means and methods, cost structures, and bid strategy, and play a key role in positioning projects for success. On select projects, this individual may also step into an acting project management role, providing additional exposure and growth opportunity. Key Responsibilities Prepare detailed cost estimates for utility and civil construction projects Analyze plans, specifications, and bid documents to define full scope Perform quantity takeoffs and pricing for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors Develop bid strategies aligned with company capabilities and market conditions Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor pricing Collaborate with field teams to validate production assumptions and constructability Build budgets and cost codes aligned with field execution and tracking Participate in client communication and manage the bid process from start to finish Support project handoff and provide ongoing insight during project execution What We're Looking For 5+ years of estimating experience in construction Background in civil, underground utilities, or related complex scopes preferred Open to candidates from adjacent sectors with strong technical estimating experience Ability to interpret plans, specifications, and construction documents Strong understanding of construction means, methods, and cost drivers Experience with estimating software (HCSS or similar is a plus) Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams Self-starter with the ability to think strategically and take ownership Why This Opportunity Stands Out High-visibility role with direct impact on project success and company growth Opportunity to expand beyond estimating into project leadership Collaborative environment with strong alignment between the field and the office Steady pipeline of work with diverse and technically engaging projects Long-term growth potential within a stable and respected organization If you're an estimator who enjoys thinking beyond the numbers and wants to be part of a team where your input truly matters, this could be a strong fit.
