This position is responsible for driving bid strategy, managing market intelligence, and ensuring the accuracy and competitiveness of all proposals. The Estimator leads cross-functional coordination with sales, operations, and project management teams, while maintaining strong relationships with subcontractors, vendors, and regulatory agencies. This role also ensures the integrity of project setup and cost tracking systems, supports field execution, and continuously evaluates bid performance to enhance future outcomes. Through strategic insight and operational excellence, the Estimator directly contributes to the company's growth, profitability, and market leadership.
KEY RESPONSIBLITIES
Market Intelligence & Sales Coordination Manage bid notifications and advertising schedules across platforms (Salesforce, Bid Express, CT Source, Insight). Analyze competitor activity and client engagement to inform strategic bidding decisions. Bidding & Proposal Management Review bid opportunities with senior management to determine pursuit strategy. Perform quantity takeoffs and evaluate subcontractor/vendor proposals for pricing and compliance. HCSS Heavy Bid Project Setup & Cost Management Build and maintain project setups in HCSS for awarded contracts including VIP programs and service contracts. Support Project Managers with field execution logistics and coordination. Project Execution & Performance Tracking Monitor and report on Margin Loss Tracking (MLT), targeting 5% or less. Collaborate with Operations and Project Managers to analyze bid-versus-build performance.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience Minimum:
Associate's degree; Bachelor's preferred or relevant experience. Minimum 3 years' experience in estimating or project management for civil, infrastructure, or related construction projects. Experience in DOT, Heavy & Highway, FAA, Paving or Milling is a plus-but not required. We provide training for highway and paving bid processes. Familiarity with construction specifications and estimating tools is required. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills. Ability to learn and adapt to new estimating systems and project types. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and estimating software (e.g., HCSS, Bid2Win, Paydirt, Primavera) is preferred. Self-motivated and collaborative, with a growth mindset. Other Requirements Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen, and background check.
