Job Description
Reports To:
Chief Estimator We are seeking an experienced Senior Estimator to join our team. The Senior Estimator will play a crucial role in the pre-construction phase, responsible for accurately estimating project costs and preparing competitive bids for a variety of underground utility projects. This position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with project managers, engineers, subcontractors, and customers.Key Responsibilities Bid Preparation:
Prepare comprehensive bid proposals based on accurate cost estimates, ensuring competitiveness while maintaining profitability. Coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain competitive pricing for materials, equipment, and subcontracted services.Assessment:
Identify and analyze potential risks and opportunities associated with each project. Develop strategies to mitigate risks and enhance project success and profitability.Cost Estimation:
Utilize historical data, pricing databases, and industry knowledge to prepare detailed cost estimates for underground utility projects including water, sewer, storm drain, and other utilities.Analyze project plans, specifications, and other documentation to identify project requirements and scope of work.
Relationship Management:
Build and maintain relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and customers to facilitate successful project execution and business development opportunities. Identify new subcontractors and vendors to diversify the existing subcontractor and supplier network. Negotiate favorable pricing and terms and conditions with subcontractors and suppliers.Collaboration and Communication:
Work closely with project manager, engineers, and other team members to ensure alignment of estimates with project goals and specifications. Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and customer presentations, as necessary. Documentation and Reporting Maintain accurate and detailed records of estimates, including assumptions, methodologies, and calculations. Prepare and present reports on estimating activities, project costs, and budget forecasts as required for the estimating handoff to production.Continuous Improvement:
Stay informed about industry trends, new technologies, and best practices in estimating and underground utility construction. Implement improvements to estimating processes and tools to increase efficiency and accuracy.Qualifications and Skills:
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred. Proven experience as an estimator in underground utility construction, with a minimum of 5 years in a senior estimating role. Strong proficiency with estimating software and tools (e.g., HCSS HeavyBid, Bluebeam). Excellent analytical and mathematical skills with a keen attention to detail. Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and contracts. Thorough understanding of diverse specifications from multiple jurisdictions. Ability to handle multiple simultaneous projects of various sizes. Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.Benefits:
