Job Summary The Construction Project Estimator will gather, evaluate, and then prepare detailed total cost information for cost-effectiveness for and during the construction bid process. They may visit construction sites to gather information and analyze proposals, specifications, blueprints, and construction documents in order to understand the project. Estimators work closely with project managers to coordinate and oversee the vendors and/or subcontractors in the bid process. They determine the time, labor, materials, and product costs for the project and communicate the requirements to the client. An estimator works mainly in an office environment but may visit construction sites occasionally as needed to obtain necessary information. Responsibilities Prepare detailed cost estimates for construction projects by analyzing blueprints, specifications, and other documentation. Utilize estimating software such as HeavyBid and Bluebeam to create precise estimates. Conduct site visits to assess project requirements and gather necessary information for accurate pricing. Collaborate with project managers to understand project scope and timelines, ensuring alignment on cost control measures. Negotiate prices with subcontractors and suppliers to secure the best possible rates for materials and services. Maintain organized records of all estimates, contracts, and correspondence related to projects. Monitor ongoing projects to track costs against estimates, making adjustments as necessary to stay within budget. Provide support in project management tasks as needed, ensuring timely completion of projects. Skills Proficiency in construction estimating techniques and methodologies. Familiarity with HeavyBid and Bluebeam software for efficient estimating processes. Strong understanding of cost control principles in the construction industry. Experience working on construction sites, with knowledge of site operations and safety protocols. Excellent project management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively. Strong negotiation skills to secure favorable pricing on contracts and materials. Ability to analyze complex data and make informed decisions based on findings. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, for collaboration with clients and team members.
