The Sr. Estimator will develop accurate, competitive bids by reviewing project scope, coordinating with project teams, and quantifying materials, labor, and subcontractor costs. The role focuses on ensuring bid accuracy, mitigating risk, and supporting business development through clear, timely proposals and scope reviews. Key Responsibilities Lead preparation of detailed, competitive cost estimates for commercial construction projects, including takeoffs, pricing, and contingency analyses. Review project documents (drawings, specifications, addenda) to define and clarify scope, assumptions, and exclusions.
Manage and coordinate bid processes:
issue RFPs, solicit and evaluate subcontractor quotes, and integrate vendor pricing into estimates. Perform thorough scope and risk reviews with project managers, architects, and subcontractors to identify omissions and value engineering opportunities. Prepare and present bid summaries, cost breakdowns, and change order pricing to internal stakeholders and clients. Maintain and update estimating databases, cost libraries, and historical unit rates to improve estimate accuracy and speed. Collaborate with preconstruction, procurement, and operations teams to ensure constructability, schedule alignment, and cost control. Provide mentorship and oversight to junior estimators, reviewing their work and ensuring consistency with company standards. Participate in post-bid reviews and project closeouts to analyze variance and refine estimating practices. Qualifications Minimum 7+ years of estimating experience in commercial construction with a proven track record of successful bids. Strong proficiency as an estimator with hands-on experience in quantity takeoffs, cost modeling, and scope review. Demonstrated experience preparing and managing commercial bids, including subcontractor solicitation and bid tabulation. Deep understanding of construction practices, materials, means and methods, and cost drivers. Excellent written and verbal communication skills for compiling proposals and presenting cost recommendations. Proficiency with estimating software (e.g., PlanSwift, Bluebeam, Procore, Timberline/Sage) and Microsoft Excel. Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to identify risks and propose mitigation strategies. Ability to lead cross-functional reviews, mentor junior staff, and work effectively under bid deadlines. Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred, or equivalent industry experience.
