Job Description

Estimator (Glass /Glazing) A very stable, growth-oriented, and customer-focused glass contracting company has an opportunity for an Estimator. The Project Estimator is responsible for producing accurate, competitive, and strategically aligned estimates for commercial and residential glass and glazing projects. The Estimator analyzes plans, specifications, and bid opportunities to determine scope, perform quantity takeoffs, calculate costs, and prepare proposals. The role also manages vendor pricing, supports project handoff, and contributes to job selection strategy aligned with company capacity and profitability targets. If you have One to Three (1-3 years) experience as an estimator in the construction industry and Three (3) years in glass this may be the position for you. Essential Responsibilities :
  • Interpret blueprints, specifications, and bid documents
  • Perform accurate quantity takeoffs (glass, aluminum, hardware, etc.)
  • Develop complete cost estimates (materials, labor, logistics)
  • Prepare and submit professional bid proposals
  • Analyze project fit (profitability, location, capacity alignment)
  • Maintain bid log and track opportunities
  • Coordinate with vendors for pricing and lead times
  • Support project handoff to Project Manager post-award
  • Identify risks, gaps, and scope inconsistencies before submission
  • Review incoming plans, specs, and bid invites
  • Perform takeoffs and update estimating worksheets
  • Communicate with vendors for pricing and lead times
  • Maintain bid tracking system
  • Submit completed bids and proposals
  • Review bid pipeline with owner
  • Coordinate with PM on awarded jobs
  • Evaluate bid results (win/loss analysis)
  • Update cost databases and pricing assumptions
  • Review estimates vs. actual job performance
  • Identify improvement opportunities in estimating accuracy
Essential Qualifications:
One
  • Three (1-3) years in construction estimating, project coordination, or blueprint reading
  • Three (3) plus years in commercial glass & glazing estimating
  • OSHA 10 or 30 Construction Certification
  • preferred
  • Bluebeam / Takeoff Software Certification
  • preferred
  • Experience with storefront, curtainwall, and aluminum systems
  • Experience bidding municipal / government projects
  • Blueprint and specification interpretation (critical)
  • Accurate material takeoffs (glass SF, aluminum LF, hardware, caulking)
  • Cost modeling (material, labor, equipment, overhead)
  • Understanding of glazing systems (storefront, curtainwall, interior glazing)
  • Familiarity with vendor ecosystems (Oldcastle, CRL, etc.)
  • Strong mathematical reasoning and cost analysis
  • Ability to evaluate job profitability, risk, and feasibility
  • Bid/no-bid decision support based on radius, margin, and capacity
  • Vendor negotiation and relationship development
  • Clear scope writing and proposal presentation
  • Coordination with PM and field teams
  • High attention to detail (non-negotiable)
  • Accountability for accuracy (no "missed scope")
  • Proactive follow-up with GCs and vendors
  • Self-directed and organized
  • Advanced arithmetic, unit conversions, cost modeling
Mechanical:
Understanding of construction assemblies and systems
  • Ability to visualize 3D assemblies from 2D drawings (critical estimator skill) High School Diploma or equivalent is Required Bachelors or Associate Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field is preferred Our company is an equal opportunity employer with a drug free workplace.
