Job Description

Estimator Job Description We are seeking an Estimator who will be responsible for reviewing proposal specifications and drawings, providing accurate quantity take-offs, and determining the best design or construction solutions based on various factors such as cost, quality, and material availability. This role involves using estimating software to prepare estimates, bids, and takeoffs, and maintaining positive relationships with clients, subcontractors, and the community. Responsibilities Review proposal specifications and drawings. Provide accurate quantity take-offs based on drawings and specifications. Review design or construction options and determine best solutions based on cost, quality, and availability of materials and equipment. Use estimating software to prepare, develop, and facilitate estimates, bids, and takeoffs. Solicit and obtain material and subcontractor quotes. Ensure understanding of project requirements, scope of work, work durations, and schedule. Identify and report errors, ambiguities, and missing information in contract documents. Seek additional information and clarification from architects, engineers, and owners as needed. Produce estimates that are accurate and consider risk factors and construction methods. Maintain positive relations with clients, subcontractors, and the community. Communicate effectively with other team members. Perform additional duties as assigned. Essential Skills Experience in estimation, construction, construction management, and project management. Proficiency in estimating software and commercial construction. Strong skills in math, analytical reading, independent judgment, organization, and time management. Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and experience with Sage, eTakeoff, InSite, or other related programs. Additional Skills & Qualifications 2-year technical degree in a construction-related program required. 4-year degree in construction engineering, construction management, civil engineering, or similar preferred. Previous exposure to the estimating process. Ability to work with a team and demonstrate core values of positivity, caring, integrity, teamwork, and helpfulness. Work Environment The position is primarily office-based with business casual attire. Occasional visits to job trailers might be required. The role requires effective communication and collaboration within a team-oriented environment. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Ames, IA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $70000.00 - $80000.00/yr.
