Job Description

Job Summary:
The Project Manager / Estimator position is a critical role for the company. This individual will be responsible for estimating and providing management with detailed pricing for development of bid quotations and bid packages. He or she should have relevant experience in preparing cost estimates for product manufacturing, construction projects, or services to aid management in bidding on or determining price of product or service. This individual will be responsible for planning, directing, or coordinating activities concerned with the construction and maintenance of structures, facilities, and systems. He or she will participate in the conceptual development of a construction project and oversee its organization, scheduling, budgeting, and implementation. This individual must have the ability to support field personnel in their relationships with other subcontractors and to resolve field problems as they arise. This individual maintains full financial responsibilities of the project and must understand construction financial and accounting practices.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Collect and analyze historical cost data, blueprints, specifications, contract documents, and other project documentation to prepare accurate time, material, labor, cost, conceptual, budget, and design/build estimates for current and future projects.
  • Consult with clients, vendors, engineers, architects, owners, contractors, subcontractors, construction foremen, and internal departments to develop estimates, clarify scope, resolve issues, and make necessary adjustments to project costs.
  • Review contract and bid documents, participate in walk-throughs, pre-bid and scope clarification meetings, and prepare quantitative take-offs, computer entries, scope letters, proposals, and other required bid documentation.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with customers, General Contractors, vendors, subcontractors, and internal teams while coordinating junior and staff-level resources performing take-offs, preparing bills of material, and obtaining subcontractor and vendor quotations.
  • Ensure all estimating and project documents are centrally maintained in the company's confidential estimating folders and that contract and bid documents are properly reviewed and transitioned from estimating to project management.
  • Drive the overall project flow from inception through completion, including planning, scheduling, budgeting, coordination, document control, manpower planning, material procurement, delivery requirements, and project closeout.
  • Ensure project document control is completed efficiently, including insurance, bonding, permits, submittals, RFI's, change orders, correspondence, drawings, and other required project documentation; verify that current and correct drawings are distributed to the field.
  • Confer with supervisory personnel, owners, contractors, design professionals, and field personnel to resolve work procedures, complaints, construction problems, scheduling issues, and other project-related matters.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, schedules of values, billing formats, completion and delivery dates, subcontractor requirements, manpower schedules, and required notices to ensure projects meet contractual deadlines.
  • Select subcontractors and equipment suppliers in coordination with engineering, estimating, and purchasing; request purchase orders for major equipment and subcontractors, including shipping requirements, anticipated delivery dates, and required delivery notices.
  • Facilitate material take-offs with trade foremen and host or attend required internal and external meetings covering scheduling, deliveries, work plans, job progress, manpower, project coordination, and solutions to setbacks.
  • Prepare and submit budget estimates, progress reports, cost tracking reports, and other financial information; support the accounting department with monthly billings, collections, and follow-up on outstanding balances.
  • Monitor projects for compliance with building and safety codes, environmental regulations, and other applicable requirements, and collaborate with foremen regarding project safety, including toolbox talks and weekly walkthroughs.
  • Identify and document changes in work and coordinate with estimating for pricing. Finalize change order pricing after estimating completes the take-off, work to maximize project profitability, and ensure no change-order work begins without proper approval or notice to proceed.
  • Assist field personnel with project closeout, including obtaining as-built drawings from the field and coordinating with engineering to obtain required CAD files.
  • Escalate critical or sensitive project issues to the Division Manager / Project Executive with recommendations for resolution.
  • Comply with all Company operating policies, procedures, and safety programs, and perform additional assignments as required by the needs of the company or as directed by executives.
PREFERRED
EDUCATION and/or
EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum 7-10 years related experience in electrical industry.
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor of Science with an engineering or construction management focus preferred; Master's in related field is a plus.
  • Knowledge of the construction industry and contract documentation.
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and city regulations and guidelines.
COMPUTER SKILLS
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, (i.e., Outlook, Word and Excel)
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, and other electrical, technical, or construction programs.
  • Familiarity with project management/document control software.
  • Familiarity with construction/financial software packages.
  • Experience with Accubid, Live Count and Bluebeam.
