Electrical Controls Estimator
Job Description
Metropolitan Industries, Inc. | Romeoville, Illinois Metropolitan Industries, Inc. is looking for an Electrical Controls Estimator to join our growing team in Romeoville, Illinois. This is an opportunity for someone with a strong electrical aptitude who enjoys understanding how things work, solving problems, and turning project requirements into practical solutions. You will work closely with our sales, engineering, controls design, and estimating teams to develop accurate, competitive proposals for a wide range of municipal and commercial projects. You don't need to know everything on day one. You will work alongside experienced estimators and controls designers and receive training on our products, systems, and estimating processes. Position Overview As an Electrical Controls Estimator, you will review customer specifications, drawings, and project requirements and turn that information into a complete and accurate quotation. You'll be responsible for determining the project scope, performing material take-offs, estimating labor and equipment requirements, developing bills of material, and preparing detailed proposals. The ability to understand what a customer is asking for—and then determine the best way for Metropolitan Industries to deliver that solution—is at the heart of this position. Our projects cover a broad range of electrical, controls, and water/wastewater applications, including: Municipal and commercial pump control systems Lift station controls Water pressure booster systems SCADA systems Motor control centers Power distribution equipment Custom electrical and controls systems based on project specifications Key Responsibilities Review and interpret electrical drawings, construction plans, specifications, and customer requirements. Perform electrical and material take-offs from construction drawings. Develop project scopes and determine required materials, equipment, and labor. Prepare accurate cost estimates and detailed bills of material. Develop itemized project quotations and performance specifications. Work closely with the sales team to gather project information and clarify customer requirements. Develop practical, value-engineered solutions that meet project plans and specifications. Help ensure proposals contain the appropriate scope, technical information, and pricing. Communicate with sales, engineering, controls designers, and other team members throughout the estimating process. Meet quotation deadlines while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail. Identify and develop improvements to estimating processes and best practices. Build knowledge of Metropolitan Industries' products and systems and apply that knowledge to future projects. This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities and requires minimal travel (less than 5%). What You'll Bring to the Role We're looking for someone who is technically minded, organized, comfortable working with detailed information and a good team member. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electronics Technology, or a related field; or four or more years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Basic understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC). Knowledge of basic electrical wiring. Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude. Experience with estimating, inventory, and bill-of-material creation. Ability to read and understand electrical drawings and project specifications. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Experience with Microsoft Office applications. Ability to work effectively as part of a team. Self-motivated, flexible, dependable, and able to work well with others. Additional Experience That Would Be a Plus
• Experience with electrical controls or control panels
