Job Description

Fire Protection Estimator Position We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Fire Protection Estimator to join our growing team. This role is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates and bid proposals for fire protection systems on commercial, industrial, and institutional construction projects. The ideal candidate will work closely with project teams, vendors, subcontractors, and clients to develop competitive and comprehensive estimates throughout the preconstruction and bidding process. The successful candidate will possess strong analytical skills, technical knowledge of fire protection systems, and the ability to manage multiple bid opportunities while meeting critical deadlines. Key Responsibilities Review project specifications, drawings, addenda, and contract documents to determine project scope and requirements. Maintain organized electronic project files and ensure all bid-related documentation is current and complete. Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and project walkthroughs as needed. Develop quantity takeoffs and conceptual system layouts for fire protection projects. Prepare and submit Requests for Information (RFIs) to clarify project requirements during the bidding process. Analyze project risks, constructability concerns, and potential value-engineering opportunities. Solicit, review, and evaluate subcontractor, supplier, and material quotations to ensure complete scope coverage and competitive pricing. Prepare detailed cost estimates, labor projections, and bid summaries. Generate bid proposals, qualification letters, and supporting documentation for submission. Participate in internal estimate reviews and bid strategy discussions. Coordinate with customers, consultants, engineers, and regulatory agencies throughout the estimating process. Support pre-award activities including scope reviews, client presentations, and project planning discussions. Assist with project handoff meetings upon contract award to ensure a smooth transition to operations and project management teams. Develop and maintain positive relationships with clients, industry partners, and vendors. Attend industry events, networking opportunities, and customer meetings as appropriate. Perform additional duties as assigned. QualificationsRequired Minimum of 3 years of estimating experience in fire protection, mechanical, construction, or a related trade. Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and bid procedures. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational and time-management abilities. Preferred Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Building Sciences, or a related field. 5+ years of estimating experience within the fire protection industry. Familiarity with NFPA standards, International Building Code (IBC), and local building regulations. Experience with estimating software and digital takeoff platforms. High level of accuracy and attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple bids and shifting priorities in a deadline-driven environment. Sound judgment when evaluating project risks and technical requirements. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships across teams and customers.
