Job Description

A well-established, family-owned heavy highway contractor is seeking a Chief Estimator to lead its estimating department and bidding activities throughout the Kansas City region. The company specializes in asphalt paving, concrete, cold milling, earthwork, grading, and infrastructure projects for DOTs, municipalities, developers, and private owners. Key Responsibilities Lead the estimating department and support staff Oversee estimates for paving, concrete, milling, grading, and earthwork projects Review plans, specifications, contracts, and bid requirements Prepare estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors Manage bid schedules and ensure accurate, timely submissions Perform quantity takeoffs and evaluate project risks and constructability Analyze subcontractor and supplier proposals Develop bid strategies with executive and operational leadership Lead bid reviews and project handoffs to operations Maintain historical costs and estimating standards Mentor and develop the estimating team Qualifications Extensive heavy civil or heavy highway estimating experience Knowledge of paving, roadway construction, concrete, milling, grading, and earthwork Experience leading an estimating department and managing complex bids Familiarity with DOT, municipal, commercial, and private projects Strong understanding of construction methods, production rates, and costs Proficiency with estimating and takeoff software Strong leadership, communication, and negotiation skills Kansas City market relationships are preferred Relevant degree or equivalent industry experience What the Company Offers Competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits Strong pipeline of public and private projects Long-term stability with an established contractor Collaborative, team-oriented environment For additional information on this opportunity, please contact Tysen Banks directly at 531.201.4227 Resumes may be confidentially sent tysen.banks@gogpac.com
