Job Description Job Description Job Description Mago Construction Company is a family-owned asphalt paving contractor based out of Bardstown, KY with asphalt plants, two rock quarries, and construction operations throughout the state of Kentucky. Estimator specializing in site development, grading, and utility projects. Responsible for analyzing project plans and specifications, preparing thorough cost estimates, and supporting the preconstruction process to ensure accurate, competitive, profitable bids. Ensure estimates are calculated such that specifications and Company policies are followed, quality standards are met, and that work can proceed safely, timely, and on budget.
JOB SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS
Ability to identify, or assist in identifying, potential projects. Collect thorough information regarding potential bids or quotes in order to facilitate a well-informed estimating process. Review project plans, specifications, and bid documents to understand project scope and requirements. Perform quantity takeoffs for earthwork, grading, storm drainage, and site utilities. Personally inspect, survey, and measure potential projects, when appropriate. Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes; establish pricing and timing. Prepare detailed cost estimates including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontracted work, if applicable. Ability to figure areas, volumes, slopes, tonnages, convert units and rates. Identify and evaluate potential risks, cost-saving opportunities, and value engineering options. Collaborate with other estimators, engineers, project managers, and field team. Attend pre-bid or pre-construction projects, as needed. Conduct site visits, as needed. Utilize Company's estimating software. Maintain and update cost databases and historical pricing information. Develop estimates and supporting documentation. Ensure estimates align with applicable specifications, project timelines, and Company standards. Invoice completed work; finalize and close project file. Thorough understanding and review of crew daily production rates costs associated with each - materials, labor and equipment. Continue developing knowledge of materials, methods, and tools involved in construction and paving. Maintain understanding of Company's project board and workload needs. Maintain understanding of Company's service markets. Ability to work independently. Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelors' Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent work experience. 3-5 years of estimating experience; in sitework, grading, and/or utility construction. Strong understanding of earthwork calculations, soil conditions, and utility installation methods. Proficiency with estimating software. Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications. Experience with GPS machine control and takeoff software. Familiarity with KYTC and/or private development projects. Knowledge of local subcontractor and supplier markets.
