Himmel's is a growing organization with locations in Nashville, New Orleans, Prairieville, Dallas, and Houston. We pride ourselves as the door opening experts, not simply a construction material supplier. Our family owned and operated company is seeking an Estimating Intern to join our team in Prairieville, LA. Position Summary The Estimating Intern supports the estimating department by assisting with project takeoffs, bid preparation, data entry, and administrative tasks related to commercial door, frame, and hardware projects. This internship provides hands-on exposure to construction estimating, blueprint reading, project coordination, and Division 8 products while developing technical and professional skills. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assist estimators with reviewing construction drawings and specifications. Perform quantity takeoffs for doors, frames, and hardware under supervision. Enter project information into estimating software and company databases. Organize project documents, plans, specifications, and addenda. Request and track vendor pricing and product information. Assist with bid preparation and proposal assembly. Support the estimating team with project research and documentation. Attend department meetings and training sessions. Learn industry terminology, products, and construction processes. Maintain accurate project records and electronic files. Perform other duties and special projects as assigned. Qualifications Required High school diploma or currently pursuing a high school diploma. Currently enrolled in or pursuing a degree in Construction Management, Business, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred. Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Strong math and analytical abilities. Eagerness to learn and willingness to ask questions. Preferred Interest in construction, estimating, project management, or architecture. Exposure to construction drawings, blueprints, or specifications. Experience using Excel or data management software. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to work effectively in a team environment. Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Positive attitude and willingness to learn. Ability to maintain confidentiality with project and company information. Physical Requirements Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods. Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Ability to review detailed plans, specifications, and construction documents.
