Job Description

WFQ is looking for an experienced Cost Estimator with a strong machining background. This is a contract-to-hire position for one of our customers in Brighton, MI. This ideal candidate possesses expertise in machining processes, cost analysis, and project coordination. You will work closely with the engineering, quality, and production teams to ensure that estimates accurately reflect real-world manufacturing methods and shop capabilities. Key Responsibilities for the Cost Estimator Review and analyze blueprints, CAD models, GD&T, and customer specifications to develop accurate cost estimates. Work with engineering and production to determine optimal machining strategies. Prepare detailed estimates for new RFQs and change orders, ensuring accuracy and adherence to deadlines. Enter and maintain estimate data, part numbers, revision levels, and related documentation in the estimating system. Interpret bid instructions and technical specifications to ensure all labor, materials, subcontracted services, and inspection requirements are captured in the estimate. Participate in peer review of outgoing quotes to ensure accuracy and consistency. Prepare quotes up to $200,000 and support sales and pre‑production teams with scope clarification and timeline planning Provide alternative manufacturing or inspection recommendations when needed to meet customer requirements or cost targets. Qualifications for the Cost Estimator Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Engineering, or related field preferred Minimum 5 years of estimating experience in machining and precision manufacturing. Strong understanding of machining processes, GD&T, and manufacturing workflows Basic understanding of part modeling, CAD, and print interpretation Excellent attention to detail and strong written communication skills Requirements for the Cost Estimator English proficiency A shorter job‑board‑optimized version A more technical version for manufacturing‑focused candidates A version emphasizing CMM programming or metrology A version emphasizing machining cost analysis
Pay:
$75,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
